The forum was just showing 3 NEW posts in the test forum - last poster was me, however I entered the thread and there were only 2 new posts both by QooQ

Hmmm almost fixed however I just noticed my thread in the Comments forum is showing a yellow icon but there are no new posts in it. I went into the thread and refreshed a few times and the icon was still yellow.

I too, I went into Links customization read 3 posts, back out to the main forum page, then having forgot where I was in my routine check 
, I went back in ... the top and 3rd posts were yellowed but the post by renee which still hasn't had a reply was whited ... hmmm .... strange error to say the least.
