How do Bans work ?

How do Bans work ?
If we ban an Ip address, what does that do ? Does it stop that IP from logging into the site, or does it stop that IP from even browsing the site as a guest ?

If it's just the former, is it possible to make it the later too ?

I believe it blocks them fully (i.e from viewing the forum at all if they are banned).

There's something very strange here. We have two people who log in as Admin (same username and password) but we both get to see different IP addresses in the "Administration" - Users - Bans - List/Edit screen.

Any ideas ? Where are the banned IP's stored ?

Looks like bans aren't stored in the db. Both admins were running code from different directories even though they were both using the same db.

Hi,

Forum bans are stored in the ForumBan table, but admin bans are stored in the conf file under 'bans' and will affect any page from Gossamer Forum.

Cheers,

Thanks.
That makes sense as to why her bans weren't showing up when I tried to view them.
