When selecting new post the edit screen appears but no text entry box and with a message at the bottom of the screen in the browser message area saying 'Done but with errors on the page' .I am running gforum 1.1.8 and the browser is internet explorer 6.0.2 with sp1.

Have you edited the template at all? If so, you might go back to the default.

That's a known advanced editor bug, you see it every now and then, something to do with IE.

If not and if all else fails, turn on debugging in the admin area and post printout here (edit your unique details out) for Jason to look at.

The problem I have is no 'POST:' input area. The text box is missing. When I turn on debug I get no output when I go to the editor. IE. call post.

Tried it with a different browser? Maybe something you have turned off in security settings for the browser?

Turned on debug in the correct product and looked at the output. Several templates and the editor in the wrong directories. Moved them where they were being looked for and everything now works.
