Random questions about features/admin stuff...
Coming from WWWThreads, I have a few questions about some features, if they're in GForum now, or if they're planned... Not sure if there's a list of features anywhere that I could check these on, or if it's been covered here already, but here goes:

- Unregistered posting w/custom name, plus per forum configuration of read/write groups.

- Folder for sent private messages, plus address book.

- User images? Show with posts?

- Forum stats in admin section? What kind of stats? (Sorry, haven't installed the forum yet! Blush)

Now for some suggestions, I guess:

- User database where other users could search for users with common interests, location, name, or custom fields.

- Listing of new posts since last visit, active threads past x hours/days, etc.

(BTW I just saw the custom dictionary... AWESOME! Cool)

Suggestions for Customization ideas should be posted in the new GT Forums Customization forum.

Hi,

Yes you can post anonymously. Also you can control per forum which groups can see, read, read/reply, or read/reply/post.

There is a sent folder, but no address book.

There is limited support for user icons, but not anything a user can upload yet (as in avatars).

No stats yet, we'd be interested to see what people would like to know.

Cheers,

Alex

Maybe stats like you used to get with wwwthreads as a moderator/admin?

I would also like to see a plugin to share user names and passwords with LinksSQL. There is one for wwwthreads and Vb. makes it easier for the users. I will hold off installing Gforums for now, but it looks good so far.

Hi,

We are hard at work, and Gossamer Community is our top priority (that will be what will enable all the applications to share user info).

A few more ....

- Can you turn off the post icons?

Any possible plans for ...

- Send thread to friend.
- Plain text view for printing.
- Thread tracking to notify a user by e-mail when there are any replies to a tracked thread. Option to automatically track all threads you post to, etc.

Thanks for the comments, I've added it to our todo list. For print view, would you want the entire thread, or an individual post or both? If so how would you see specifying individual vs entire thread?

Well personally, I never liked the individual per post print option, since an icon, link, or button has to be added to each post, and really, I have never used the feature... so while some might desire that, in terms of realistic usefulness, I'd say an entire thread print view would be more logical. Not to say there won't be requests for both.

Also, I think the arrow to jump to the latest post (when viewing a forum's list of posts in collapsed mode) should be directly to the right of the main link, not to the right of the name in the 'last post' column. That's a lot of mileage on the mouse with a 19 or 21" screen. Wink

I'll also go for the entire thread option instead of single post printing (though when it was discused in wwwthreads people had arguments for both).

One feature that I love in wwwthreads is the option to add threads (or forums) to your "favorites" list....really useful IMO and well implemented (has potential for much more. BTW in W3t it goes with other options like post reminders that I don't find that useful..personal opinion though)

It's a relatively simple matter - simply comment out the post icon line in the post write template (include_post_common_write.html).
