A happy new DBMan SQL user :)
Just introducing a happy new DBMan SQL user, myself. Cool
This week I bought a DBMan SQL license, and I see a lot potential in using it.

In this year (around 2005 Q3), I plan to implement DBMan SQL into my website, so I will likely actively participate on the DBMan SQL discussion and development forum. I hope, I will able to activate this forum a bit.
I ask some patience, until I will have time to work with it, and participate in this forum, too.

Best regards,
Webmaster33

Welcome Webmaster33.
I've been tinkering with DBManSQL for some years in my spare time.
I think it's a great solution and can't understand why it's not more popular.
My coding skills have improved a little over the years but I still have a very long way to go. I try to answer questions in this forum whenever I can but I'm sure your presence will be most appreciated.
Looking forward to your contribution.
Simon.

Thanks for your welcome message!
Yes, I also think, DBMan SQL is a very good software, as well as Links SQL.
It is also based on the GT library similarly like Links SQL.

I do a short feature comparison of Links SQL & DBMan SQL for new users:
Links SQL:
+ uses templates, plugins, globals, language support
+ can handle categories
+ static page display
+ dynamic page display
+ directory related features: like link checking, validating, dupe check, etc...
- but by default only 1 database can be handled (hardly, but possible to develop a plugin to handle multiple databases)
+ MySQLman, Fileman available
+ Mailing features
+ basic Newsletter feature
- can not handle Relationships (internally can, but not from the admin interface)
+ has Editors interface
- minimal permission possibilities
- no multiple user tables
- no Browse Log
+ Payments feature (but only from v2.2.1)
+ PHP front-end (but note, GT may want to drop PHP support from LSQL v3.0)
+ plugins: a lot

DBMan SQL:
+ uses templates, plugins, globals, language support
+ can handle categories
- works only in dynamic mode (but can be developed a plugin, which makes static page generation possible)
- no directory related features
+ can handle unlimited databases
+ MySQLman, Fileman available
+ Mailing features
- no Newsletter feature
+ can handle Relationships from admin interface
+ has Agent interface
+ good permission possibilities
+ multiple user tables
+ Browse Log, listing user actions
- no Payments feature (but note, DBMan SQL is v2.1.0 version, and v2.2 may contain such such feature)
- no PHP front-end (but note, GT may want to drop PHP support from LSQL v3.0)
- plugins: not too much

As you see, there are not too big differences. Both has advantages and disadvantages.
The reason of Links SQL popularity is, that even a non-technical user can quickly start his/her directory site.
DBMan SQL needs some database knowledge, so mostly the advanced users are using it.
And the reason of low DBMan SQL forum activity may be, that advanced users probably are asking fewer questions, and mostly they solve their problems themself.

Best regards,
Webmaster33

Also there are another differences, I did not mention in previous post.

Links SQL:
+ rating (voting) feature
+ review feature
+ bookmark feature
+ detailed pages feature

DBMan SQL:
- rating feature
- review feature
- bookmark feature
- detailed pages feature

I might post the whole comparison later, into a separate thread.

If you have other features which was missing from the comparison, post it here.
