Recomend editor
Is there any editor better than notepad out there? My notepad adds lines every time I open a file...

I would like one that has different colours on different code. Is this possible?

I have been using Programmer's File Editor 1.01, which I don't think will do the colors as you mentioned.

Yet it is really nice compared to notepad.

TextPad will let you do the colors, etc. For example I changed my .pl, .cgi and .cfg settings (so that when any file with that extension is opened) to show all of the perl comments (#you know, the stuff like this) are in a very, very light gray color. This way when I'm editing a file it is really easy to ignore the comments.

I don't remember their URL but you should check them out. Highly recommended.

UltraEdit also lets you choose colors. You can select different programming languages (perl, Javascript, and others, there are plenty of wordfiles available for download at their site) and adjust colors individually. http://www.ultraedit.com
