The Mods are gone

The Mods are gone
Hello everyone.

I just thought I'd let you know that all of my DBMan mods are gone. Vanished. Kaput. It was due to something extremely stupid that I did.

I did find some of the files in another directory, so I may be able to rebuild some of them. But not all of them.

Right now I'm a little too demoralized to go in and see what I've got. I'll tackle it tomorrow. I just wanted to let you know that none of the links to my mods in the Resource Center will work at least for a while.

I'll post here when I have a handle on the ones I have and the ones I need. Possibly someone will have saved a file that I can copy.

I feel like such a clone.

Thanks much, Peter. I sent you email with my address.

I'll be offline the rest of today. Between what you have and what I have I may be able to rebuild most of the collection. I'll take a closer look at everything tomorrow. I also have a message out to my server admin to see if it is possible that the directory can be restored. (I don't hold out much hope, but it never hurts to ask.)

I think right now I'm still in shock. I have done some really stupid things in my life, but this ranks up there with the stupidest.

JPDeni i have emailed mods to you now, i think anyone that has mods should email them to you, since you are the author of them, and without your help many of us would still be stuck with dbman,
Thanks for all your help in the past with dbman

Carol, if you could/would indicate which mods you found a copy of, some of us out here may have copies of others to fill the blanks. I have a copy of many - just don't want to fill your mailbox if the ones I have aren't needed.

Will do, Bob and Karen. Thanks much.

I'm going through the ones that I have saved on my hard drive (not many) and the ones Peter sent. I do have a list of the mods that I had. In fact, I had just finished making that list before I messed everything up.

I should have a comprehensive list of what I still need by tomorrow morning.

What I have learned from this: FileMan is a very nice script that allows you to edit files online. But it is also important to back up the files created and edited by FileMan once in a while.

Carol:

Good to see you !!!!!

I also have many of your mods saved on my computer as well.
Once I see you list, I can just upload them to a server so you could do a quick save to your hard drive.

I'll check tomorrow for the list of ones you need.

Re: The Mods are gone In reply to
Well, I just went through what I had and what Peter sent me. Humungous thanks to Peter. He had a whole slew of them that I didn't.

Here's what's still missing:

AddPermission.txt
bad_email.txt (Ban email domains from signup)
ColumnDisplay.txt
externaltxt.txt (External text file)
file_size.txt (Find the dimensions of a graphic file)
Modify multiple records at a time (I don't even have the file name for this one)
mult_select.txt (Multiple selections in a select field)
PriceRange.txt (select field that searches for a range of values)
email_after_add.txt (send email after a record is added -- this is an easy one that I can probably duplicate pretty quickly
short_change2.txt (changes to the user-friendly html.pl file for short/long display)
spreadsheet.txt (display records one row at a time)

Also I'm missing a number of the files for the password lookup mod. I have the basic file, but not the change password or change email files. I don't even know exactly what files were under that general category, because I had a separate page that listed the files. Also the "insecure" password lookup and the "semi-secure" password lookup.

I'm missing a number of the "limit records" mods. There are so many permutations of this mod that I can't name them all. If you have any of them and can get them to me, I'll sort through them.

Then there are the ones that I have, but only an older version than the most recent. (Thank you Lois for suggesting that I date the files when I made a modification!!) Below are the ones I have old copies of, along with the most recent modification date --

archive.txt -- 31 May 2000
send_record.txt -- 22 Jun 2000
massmailer.txt -- 3 Jul 2000
spam_buster.txt (Private Mailer) -- 20 Apr 2000
relational.txt -- 2 Aug 2000
date_translator.txt -- 17 May 2000
html_pl.txt (My "user-friendly" file) -- 13 Jun 2000
validate1.txt (Validate Records) -- 12 Jun 2000

Now, how to get these to me. You can either send them as an attachment (I can manage with attachments better these days) or you can save them to your webspace and let me know where to pick them up. Either way is fine. Send them to hall@drizzle.com.

Thanks much folks!!!

Carol:

I'm uploading everything I have to a server, and will email you the FTP info so you can just download them to your system.

The only thing is with the version that I saved, I've also included any notes or threads related to fixes reported or other uses for the mods. So you might have to remove things from the files.

I think i have all but perhaps:

file_size.txt (Find the dimensions of a graphic file)

and I only have for "limit records" the "limit user":(

I should have everything else, and hopefully the latest version.

Hi! Miss you a lot since you were gone. I hope that everything is well with you. I also have a few MODS of yours in my computer and if LoisC or tohers don't have certain MOds and I have them, I'll be glad return them to their owner. :)

Thank you for all your helpful advice during those times. I really learnt a lot from you and your MODs.

Wow!!! I've got so much help today that I can't stand it. :)

Still to be found:
-----------------------
file_size.txt (I think I can find it in the forum, though)
Modify more than one record at a time (this was pulled from Links. I should be able to recreate it)
Semi-secure password lookup
-----------------------

Pretty good, huh? (I had no idea people were saving my mods like this. But I'm sure glad they did.)

There are a few files that I still only have an older version of. I'll see if I can figure out what the problem was. If not, I'm sure I'll hear about it. :)

Boy, I was really depressed yesterday. Things are looking up today. :)

Yeah anything for you jpdeni, you gave us all these good mods! Although...I've had countless troubles with them :D Another suggestion I have is to try searching for them on google, and clicking on the cached version. Thank you for all your contributions to this community, which not be nearly as rich without you.

I believe I have the semi-secure MOD. I'll send it over to you in an email.

Carol:

I did have the Modify more than one record at a time

It's on the server as: MULITMOD.TXT

you probably didn't recognize it cause of the typo Smile

The Image::Size I don't have a copy of but this is the thread:

Thread reference: http://gossamer-threads.com/p/87572
Subject New File Upload Mod
Chris Croome - 13-Jun-00

or save in the FAQ noted below under: image12.txt

You're right. I missed that one. I'll get it up today.

I did find the thread with the image size mod. I just haven't managed to write it out as yet.

So, it looks like the only thing that's missing is a bunch of the limit records mods. I'll write them as needed.

You folks are wonderful. I don't know how to thank you.

# Add a record at the time of signup
# To be used *with* the password lookup mod
# To be used with the *user-friendly* html.pl file

.. you can find it here!

JPDeni, I don't know if this will help, but go to http://www.archive.org. Type in http://www.jpdeni.com/dbman/ and you will be able to see a version of your page from Nov. 2001. It has all the mods so at least they are there if not totally up to date.

Here's a short cut

http://web.archive.org/...ww.jpdeni.com/dbman/

Thanks for all your help. I have used a lot of your mods and you help on the forum, but I don't have any of them saved except in my own files, which have been edited and changed a lot. Sometime I don't think I could do my job without you!

Edit:

OOPS! I didn't realize this thread was so old when I posted- sorry!
