Wild Speculation?

Wild Speculation?
We now have GT Forum, GT Links SQL, and GT Mail. All MySQL, Perl and as they are all GT, will have a common user login (at some point).

I was wondering if GT was working on/planning any other scripts to round out a webmasters GT based site? Any of the other scripts going to be released in PHP besides Links SQL?

Well, the recent news letter hinted at two new tools for businesses to help keep in touch with clients. That sound very interesting to me.

Who knows what else they have up their sleeves Cool

Hi,

What sort of scripts do you think are needed to round out a site? We have two applications almost finished (will be released in October), as well as the community plugin will be done soon.

We currently have no plans for any other PHP scripts, but the response we get from the Links SQL PHP will determine if we convert/create any other PHP applications.

Cheers,

Alex

Alex,

Right off hand, I don't know. Partly, beacuase I will want to see what each of the scripts and their plugins allow.

I am not sure of all the features Links SQL version 2.1 will offer, the features of the new plugins or what your two new releases will be. Are these new releases in that we don't know what they are, or are they new referencing Links SQL 2.1 and GT Forum?

I understand conceptually Links SQL can or with 2.1 can be made in a classifieds ad system, photo gallery, product catalog or quite a few other things. Doing these things is as simple as adding some additional fields and changing the html layoutWink

I don't understand conceptually how Links SQL could be used to do all these things (business directory, classifieds, photo gallery, product catalog, etc) at once, and story or news publishing, kind of like phpNuke without the infestation of bugs or ezPublish from www.ez.no

Partially, this is my fault, as I haven't installed NewsPro or phpNuke etc to play around with and see how they work.

Pugdog had a suggestion when Links SQL 2.0 was released. He basically suggested having a set of global environment variables that would allow you to change and/or type font, type size, heading color, background colors, graphic size and files, etc from one location, allowing you to change the theme of your site easily. Theme meaning, summer, winter, halloween, christmas, etc. This looks like a feature that would work really well with the community plugin, to allow an individual to create an individual theme, or choose a predesigned theme.

Anyhow, in a month or so when all the new goodies are out, I can make an informed suggestionSmile

Alex,

I would guess a news posting script, with the ability for users to comment. Kind of like NewsPro. You have mentioned somewhere that the forum modules will allow Links SQL to have a top notch user comment system. The same comment system would integrate into a news posting script.
There is also another post looking for a calendar script. PugDog commented on hacking Matt Wrights calendar script into something usable. On the GT Forum, there doesn't seem to be a general concensus regarding a calendar script. A calendar script doesn't seem to far from a news posting script with a different layout.
With the GT Commnity plugin, GT Mail, Forum, Links SQL and the new applications, you would basically have GT-Nuke. GT Nuke would be a perl/mySQL solution and not have the bugs phpnuke has and would not have the security problems created by newbies hacking at php scripts.
I would imagine by version 3, the GTCommunity (user) plugin would be the main application that the other GT products would plug into. A webmaster could then mix and match the GT products to get the features he/she wanted and needed.
So how does that sound?

How about "themes" like phpnuke and the rest of them and the ability for users / visitors to the web site to choose what language they view the site in.

Also how about an IM to run as part of the COmmunity Smile

If you are doing a calendar script that would use the GT Community plugin, a nice feature would to be select if and how many days before the event that you would recieve an email reminder.

How about a content management system of sorts? Doesn't have to be too heavy... but most sites are still driven around a set of articles, news or stories. Also, a single user management system (see my other post)

Curious, what 2 apps do you have in the pipeline?Smile

I too would be curious as to what is in the pipeline?

A CMS would be nice, something simpler than ezPublish and Interchange thoughWink

[poll]

I say a banner system ... and a CMS ... the CMS would probably be the community plugin ... so hmmm what's the second mysterious product ... I hope that a polling system does not come out unless it's something like EventHandler ...

[/poll]

so folks what else are they missing ???

Actually I bet they're fishing for ideas and using a phony post to draw up some ideas ... like IBM does ... turns meetings into brainstorming about what to patent next ...

Speaking of which ... html templates have been patentened by big blue!

openoffice + gimp + sketch ... Smile
