one suggestion
Alex,
I'd asked this on Links2.0 forum last time but no solution except for Elliot saying that Jerry was working on it.
hhmmm... but he's too busy now.
I was scouting around for a script that can allow me to offer an online bookmarks.
But unlike the typical (e.g. Mybookmarks.com), this one will work with Links2.0 or LinksSQL.
Maybe similar with mylinks.cgi mod(thanks Jerry), this one doesn't store in the visitor cookie. It will save in the server, so visitor can access it anywhere (must signup).
With this function, our site will be much more better than any other website (Yahoo, Lycos, Alta-Vista, etc.).

thanks for keeping the
internet a better place.

If i understood it right you would give users the choice of saving favorites from li nks in an extra table. But for what should this be? I understand it, if you want to show a user his own startpage, with these cats he are interested in and maybe the top5 of these cats (same for the newsletter) but the links?

Startup page? Maybe better if this is possible (like myYahoo!). But what I'm interested is like Bookmarks online. There's some examples here.

http://www.mybookmarks.com
http://www.clickmarks.com
http://www.bookmarkbox.com

But the unique part is, it will work with Links. Click the [Bookmark it] button, straight away it will add it in visitor bookmarks account (just like mylinks.cgi mod).

Ok, the target is to save my favorites and get them from everywhere. So this should be another table for every-user to hold this. And a button inside links to add every link i want to my favorites.

Lets wait for the new version :-) and think then about this.
Its a good idea to create a user-center; where a user choose his cats for startpage, choose cats for newsletter and add/mod/delete his bookmarks directly. If this could melt with gosmail it would be afine thing.

yes, another table. i know i'm able to have this once i purchase the Links SQL version. but i also have Links2.0 on another server which i won't upgrade it to SQL ver.
is it possible to have this if i relate links2.0 with dbman?

You could possibly do that...however, in terms of bandwidth, CPU, disk space, and other factors, it will be a clunky system to use the regular version of DBMAN (2.04) for this type of project.

no problem with that coz i'm on an unlimited bandwidth with the provider.
i'd already installed dbman successfully on the server, now, my problem is to use it. i don't even know how to get the registration form for new members. am i supposed to get the license first to make it work?

I think you missed the point.

It would be equivalent to trying to build a 26 room mansion by yourself, using only hand tools and levers, no power tools, cranes or lifts.

It could be done, but no one would really want to do it that way, given the other more rational alternatives.

no, i'm not going to buy cranes or lifts just to build a match-stick house.
what i mean is, the links for the site will be too small and not worth of buying or even running the SQL version.
the reason of me asking this is the bookmarks issue not the links. unless Alex is willing to install LinksSQL in multiple servers for me with the price of one... :)
