FYI
Alex, fair enough if you know about this but I just though I'd point it out as it has been bugging me for ages. I've posted the message here to make other unsuspecting members aware.

SNIPPET from mycgiscripts.com:

Links directory management scripts

Links 2.01 Extended (old name - Top mod)
Links 2.01 PPR (old name - goto.com mod)
Links 2.01 Extended

Overview:
Links is an easy-to-use Directory Management program. Links allows you to run a complex link directory without being overwhelmed by editing and updating HTML pages. Apart from this, the new Links Extended is feature packed with an Ads system, stats, unlimited mailing lists support, metasearching capabilities, top list functionality, an advanced webmaster control panel, reciprocal links management system and so much more.

This version is an extension of the basic 2.01 version of Links, which is maintaned and supported by Chetter Group, Inc.
If you already have Links 2.0 - check here for a list of new and enhanced features that makes links so much more versatile.

Did you know about this?

I hate to even give this site publicity but just wanted to let you know incase you didn't realise this was going on. If you already knew and are ok with it then that's obviously none of my business.

People may wish to read here before purchasing Links "Extended":

....and also take note that there have been many complaints of the scripts not working and errors occuring, and the support is non-existant.

Did you bother to fully investigate before publicly posting this? If you did, you would have noticed that on the order form you find this......

<input type="hidden" name="salesemailcc" value="orders@gossamer-threads.com">

This would lead me to believe that Alex and mycgiscripts have made some type of arrangement....possibly, or maybe not?? Anyway, regardless, wouldn't it be a good idea to privately send a message to Alex?

Really? And where/who did you get this info from....do you care to back this statement up with proof? This is not the first time you have maliciously attacked another user on this board (no...not me) and I personally think your posting priveledges should be revoked.

P.S. Don't worry, I made a screenshot of this post in-case you decide to delete it!

Um, err, ok, aware of what??

And yes, I did read that thread that you pointed to....and I still ask you, what's the point of your post? IMHO, I don't think you are trully concerned with the "real issue" selling licensed software/mods that don't belong to you (that is...if that is what they are doing). Or, I could be completely wrong and have totally misjudged your intent!! Anyway, it doesn't matter, I've got other things to do (don't have time to argue today)....and I wouldn't be surprized if this post gets locked.....

Re: To Alex In reply to
Well could I ask what you thought my intent was?

My intentions were genuinely to find out if this was acceptible or not - I can safely sincerely promise that. So I'd be interested to know why you thought I was doing it.

People such as Junko have already showed their dismay at this in the other thread as the mycgiscripts guy was using his, and others mod to enhance his "Extended" script and was selling their work for his own profit. Are you condoning that?

Ok, last reply for now....I'll give you a "clarification" on what I meant. BTW- Nice choice of wording, I wonder, what song did you swiped that from?

I'll break it down into a simple question for ya! Did you buy this script from them, install it, get errors and then try to get support? If not, then how do you know all of this?

Oh dear...I purposely did that as I knew it would be obvious...that was the whole ironic thing...LOL

Well I'd say answering questions from people "who can't get Links Extended to work" is good enough evidence....as well as people saying "I had to come here to ask for help as no-one from mycgiscripts responded to me"

The evidence is all from posts made by members at this very forum.....I was genuinely trying to help people and wasn't being mean to mycgiscripts out of spite - even I am not that childish.

Well, I've seen/read other posts where you rip on other peoples work and say yours is better/quicker/faster etc...... You don't directly come out and say it, but you do it in a round-about way. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you've helped several people out, but your not doing it all out of the kindness of you heart, you doing it for cash also...which is completely fine, but just realize that there are others that are also doing it for cash...and those who just help because they want to, no other reason. (Note: I'm sure you help people for free too)

Absolutely not. If in fact he/they are selling other peoples work (which include the script, mods, etc), then something should be done about it.....but do you know they are doing this for sure? That's my only point.....

Re: To Alex In reply to
Yes I am 100% positive because mycgiscripts himself gave ME a copy of the code and I found Junko's portal mod in it (as I evidenced in the other thread) as well as the Fluid Dynamics Spider code and about 5 other mods that didn't belong to him.

I never rip peoples code saying mine is better.....yeah I may say I have a quicker way but that is the way in which others learn....I myself have had my code hung, drawn and quartered many times by GClemmons/Junko/Alex/Mark etc.

...I have to disagree with you on the point that I do this for money....I may not answer question in a way people would like me to all the time but I certainly don't sit here day after day answering posts on the off chance that someone may give me a few $$'s for an installation or whatever....I do it because I like the challenge of writing code for people and also to expand my knowledge of perl at the same time. You may not believe me but I know what is going on in my head and money is certainly low priority. Yeah it is nice to earn a bit of cash now and again...I guess that is why about 4 billion people go to work each day...you know...to pay bills etc...and if I do it by installing/modifying Links2 then why hold that against me?

With money comes greed and that is not the kind of person I want to be so again, money is not a high priority.

Really, that's not cool if he/they are making money off other peoples work.....I thought it was all removed after that topic/thread started? Anyway, I don't hold anything against you, if you can make some extra money..... that's great and there's nothing wrong with that. If you enjoy doing it for free or simply to learn, hey there's nothing wrong with that either. It's all good.

I thought he'd removed it too and so was happy with that, but for some reason I ended up at mycgiscripts.com this morning and there it was - being advertised again....that was when I made this post - there was no ulterior motive behind it.

Re: To Alex In reply to
Ok this is even more serious than I first thought.

ANYONE in their right mind should check out the mycgiscripts support forum......

http://community.mycgiscripts.com/...scripts/directory.pl

Unless it is a coincidence the guys at mycgiscripts are pretending to be Alex and check this out.....someone posted a problem saying that links.cfg produced the error "links.cfg did not return a true value....", which is often due to syntax errors or uploading in binary, and the support guy conveniently called "alex", told him it was due to NT permissions and it was up to their webhost to fix.

Now I'm sure that some people are still going to think I'm being spiteful or something, but PLEASE before you buy or respond to my post in anger, visit the support forum above and read the posts.

They claim

>>Our firm is comprised of a multitude of Perl programmers, who will quickly help you solve any problems that arise. <<

Do you really think if that was the case there would be so many errors thoughout the script, and the support questions were so poorly answered, and ONLY answered by "alex" every time?

Re: To Alex In reply to
Yea...I agree...many of the problems reported are already answered in the GT forums and also they are very basic to the internal logic of LINKS 2.0 that this company has ripped off....

I would recommend that NO ONE purchase a license of Extended Links or any other "product/service" from this bogus company.

Eliot Lee

Yeah, I read that post that was just closed. The strange thing is, I remember seeing the link to there site in the resource section, which is one of the reasons I said anything...now I'd be curious to know why it's there?? Maybe Alex or someone from GT could explain or enlighten us.

Sorry about the late reply on this, see:

I'm closing this thread, post any replies to the above one.

Cheers,
