load balancing with GT products

load balancing with GT products
I have a dedicated server with the following specs:

HARDWARE
Double G4 1Ghz processors (considering the exceptional multi-threads capabilities of Mac OS X Server)
512 MB of RAM
80 GB Ultra ATA HD
10/100 base T ethernet with HDSL line in Italy

SOFTWARE
Mac OS X Server 10.1.4
Apache 1.3.23
PHP 4.1.2
mod_perl 1.26
Perl 5.6
Real Chat server 2.1 (a Java based chat server solution)
MySQL 3.23.42
QuickTime Streaming Server 4

This server will run a web site (actually 300 pages - 200 MB) with scientific videos (probably streamed with QuickTime Streaming Server 4), some scripts (most Perl scripts) and the following Gossamer products:

Gossamer Community
Links SQL
Gossamer Mail with POP server plugin
Gossamer Forum
AdCycle plugin

Do you think all this is ok in comparison of hardware/software?
Thank you very very much
Max

BIGGEST VARIABLE you are missing:

How much traffic does your site receive? (per day unique users and also returning users)

That is a huge factor in terms of how much hardware and software you need to accomodate them.

Buh Bye!

Yes.. Now is 5000 users per month but there isn't the community so with this new server the traffic will augment.

Hi,

That should defiantely be ok. The only problem is currently not all our scripts can work in the same mod_perl process (as they are all built on our GT libs, and unfortunately there are a few changes in the newer libs that break things in Links SQL and Gossamer Mail). We will be releasing Links SQL 2.1.1, and Gossamer Mail 2.1.0 which will then allow you to run forum, links, and mail all in the same mod_perl process. I'd like to see these out this week.

Cheers,

Alex

And I'd like, no .. love, to see all three of these applications running side by side with this setup! Exciting times!

We will be releasing Links SQL 2.1.1

Alex,
Below is a list of the bugs you've fixed for me so far with 2.1.0... Hopefully these will be fixed in 2.1.1???

- "search_maxhits" variable is resulting with one more than entered (20 = 21 results, 25 = 26 results, etc.)

- Problem with Popular flag - it needs a "test" to make sure the link has actually received a vote and/or the rating is not '0'. Otherwise, it yanks the first "x" links or "x%" of links, or if you set it to '0', it yanks the first link only. Not much help on new directories.

- "{field} DESC" doesn't work with "DESC" or "ASC" added to "build_sort_order_search" setting (complex sorting bug)

- Problem with the next page bar on the modify links page when using dynamic mode

- After importing the Regional category, "Repair Tables" gives a "Structure Error!"

- Bug with the page bar throughout the Admin console
