what's going on here? confused
Hi,

Ok I'm a little confused here.

What is ultranerds and its affiliation with GT?
What product are people referring to when they say GT community, I see no GT Community on the products page : http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scripts/index.htm

and what the heck is a Gossamer? lol!

is andy a GT employee? is he the owner of GT? *scratches his head*

Ok to answer my own question:
http://dictionary.reference.com/...?q=gossamer&r=67

"A soft sheer gauzy fabric. "

so the company is named after some threads of fabric? is this correct?

Hi,

Andy and Ultranerds are not affiliated with Gossamer, but rather a separate company that sells plugins that work with our products. Gossamer Community is our free integration product that provides a central user/pass for all our applications. You can find out more and download Gossamer Community at:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scripts/community/

We're working hard on updating our product pages to make this not so confusing for new visitors. =)

Cheers,

Alex

Hi,

No, Gossamer Threads started with DBMan as a shareware program, and then added Links 2.0 which was also shareware (and remain so today). We do have a few free programs such as MySQLMan and the single user version of FileMan.

Interesting.

what are your views / experiences on shareware.

Ofcourse people steal it (use it for commercial use), but does the benifit of the exposure outweight the loss on theft?
Do you have issues with people hiding the 'powerd by' link? Maybe have that link generated using perl so the user can't remove it....

Missed this one. =) No, the third definition is what we were going with: "A fine film of cobwebs often seen floating in the air or caught on bushes or grass.", and (can't believe I'm posting this), but if you look at our site back in 1996 and the logo we had, it seemed to fit:

I wish <G>

Pugdog and myself both run Ultranerds.com (formorly LinksSQL.net and LinksSQL.com, which were run as seperate sites). We joined "forces" so that we can get more work done, and get better tools out to you guys :) (and also expand the scripts we work with, i.e GForum).

Hope that clears things up :)

Cheers
