Hosted with Hostcentric/Web2010???
I know that this is probably not the most appropriate post, but I am looking to see if anyone is hosted by Hostcentric/Web2010? If so, please let me know.

I am having major problems with them...they just disabled two of my accounts for no apparent reason.

Thanks in advance for any response.

Eliot, I'm still with web2010. Been there for over 4 years.

Yea...I've been with them for four years, too.

This is highly frustrating. I've noticed their support go downhill when they converged with Hostcentric.

I did submit a trouble ticket and left a message with their technical support office.

Thanks for your reply!

Really? I haven't noticed anything but then again I haven't contacted support since they switched. I hope it isn't bad now...they were legendary for how good they were

Eliot, I thought you went dedicated a long time ago. Wink

I am not with Hostcentric, but the same happened to my account yesterday (I am with another "renowned" hosting company). They say that accounts consuming too much server resources are automatically shut down. Unfortunately, it takes more than 24 hours to be back online. Mad

Thomas,

Thanks for your reply. I found out this morning that Hostcentric
has gone to an electronic mail invoice system unbenounnced to me.
They were attempting to contact me via my old email address that I
used to register the domain four years ago, which is no longer
active. I have attempted to change my registration email with Web2010
on a number of occassions.

Man, they really need to improve their communication channels with
their customers.

And, BTW: I will be going to a co-located server by summer 2002.
I need to save up some more assets in order to invest in a dedicated
server.

Eliot, I've been using web2010 since 1996 and my experience is that you have to call them (407-445-3033) for tech support. The e-mail ticket thing seems to get blown off by the support people.

I've had 50/50 service results, just depends on who you get. Ask for Eddie Smallhorn, or Danette Huber (Hebert?) or John Parker, these guys always seem willing to help and seem fairly knowledgeable (on the account/sales end).

Apparently they were hit by the NIMDA virus, according to their home page.

What is your experience with them & SQL? I tinkered with it a long time ago, they had to do some kind of set up for you and it was my understanding that you could only have one table (named after your login ID)? <-- I could be totally wrong on this.

Let me know what you think, -Mike.

Yea...I've had more luck calling their technical support line
versus using their ticket system. The problem resides in lack
of communication between their customer service/billing and
technical support departments, and their customers. I found
their service to be much better when they were not part of
the Hostcentric network.

About MySQL...Yes, they typically only give you ONE database,
but you can request additional ones for a one-time set-up
fee of $10.00 per database. I have four MySQL databases.

They do have to set-up the initial and additional databases
for you.

You used to be able to choose the database name, but now with
their new accounts (I've ordered a third virtual hosting package
for another domain this past summer), the database is named based
on your "UserID" that is recorded in their internal database.
Also, I don't know if you can order additional databases anymore.

The nice thing about their new database set-up is that all new
MySQL databases are hosted on a dedicated MySQL server, separate
from their web servers. So, the response and download times are
improved...even on a virtual account.

Hope this helps.

Eliot,

I'm not with these guys but are in the process of moving my site from HostPro to Rackspace. I find that most of these providers offer more or less the same thing when it comes to technology, with a few ups and downs... The only real differentiator is often SERVICE.

Rackspace has what the call "fanatical service" (yup - that's actually their phrase!) Site is not live on their servers yet but I've given their service a go a few times already - I am very impressed. It is fanatical to say the least. Check them out.
