About these forums, rankings
Is the following thread still accurate http://www.gossamer-threads.com/p/81563. It doesn't seem so. Most of the GT forum community is listed as members even though they have posted well below the 100 mark. Thanks for the clarification.

Paul

Nope. Don't think they are. All I know is that at 1000 posts you become a Veteran. I'm not sure about the others.

lol - did you read this in that thread?

Alex

I posted a comment about the tongue smiley which hasn't been commented on but I feel that it should be addressed.

To me this forum is about helping people and the tongue smiley can be used to upset people. I feel that it has no place in the forum.

Oh, figures, Junko. Thanks. I feel like an idiot now. It was a really wrong thread and the first page was a discussion about other problems with the forum so I assumed that Alexs' first post about the rankings was the correct one. Maybe this should be addressed on the forums FAQ page, just so people know what it takes to be a veteran. Well, now that I feel like a newbie, I'll be going now.

Here's an idea...

How about calculating member rankings based on more then just the number of posts? Maybe some check-boxes/select-lists on level of experience with GT's products and different programming languages in our profiles. Maybe even a message quality ratings system that could be factored in as well. I think something like that would really help distinguish very knowledgable users from people that just post messages a lot. And, for example, we would know how general/specific we might have to be when replying to questions.

Just my $.02.

Cool idea but hard to put into practice.

Maybe there should be a voting system - each member/veteran could have a star rating next to their username and so people can easily see who gets a good rating and who doesn't.

The rating could be based on number of posts, speed of replies, manner of replies etc....there could be a link on each post saying "Vote for this user"

Hmmm, nice idea, but there are malicous people out there and a 0 ranking would could through off the scores a little.

Since some of my teachers are on this thread just thought I'd also mention that I really appreciate all the help that I've recieved.

Thanks

PS actually nothing should be worried about since lots of US perl dumb/simple folk are in the know other ways ....

be happy cuz we do appreciate

I joined 14 months ago and have made 4442 posts (about).

That works out as 317 per month and 10 per day so it isn't really that many if you think about it.

You can easily make 10 posts in a day. It doesn't mean you have no life. I've probably made about 8 posts today but have still played a round of golf and seen friends Smile

I'm at university so have lots of holidays and free time so thats my excuse for being online a lot Wink.

Once I start getting towards my finals next year, and then start work then I won't be around as much.
