Chat + GCommunity = Custom Job
Hello,

We want to offer chat on our website using GCommunity to authenticate users.

We need a chat software/system and to have it integrated into GCommunity.
Any suggestions or customs jobs out there?

Thanks

I would prefer a flash chat that can support at least 100 people but can be expanded to support more.
GCommunity must be the user interface to get in and there GComm username will be there chat username.

Also I want it to work in my template.

Thanks

I have a Java chat + GCommunity solution.
My RChat plugin (commercial) integrates a commercial Java chat applet with GCommunity.
Of course it uses templates of GCommunity.

The plugin is not fully finished (means no advanced installer, you need to do some things manually), but works as it should.
I can finish if you need it.

Le me know, if you need more info about it.

Best regards,

I think I can integrate it, but let me analyze it first...
The RChat plugin should be possible to be modified to match FlashChat.

 Warning!

Read these threads:
Flash Chat Module is Hackable
Flash Chat was hacked on our site today

You might wait until this bug is fixed...

After the fix is done, contact me again, and I will do the change RChat plugin to handle FlashChat.

Oh boy.....

I really prefer flash chat over a java because its less server intensive
and more people have flash than Java to run the chat.

I will look around for some other flash chat scripts that may be more
secure, just in case.

If anyone know of any please let us know?

Thanks

I saw the Flash Chat v1.5.x version earlier, but I did not like it so much.
However this Flash Chat v4.x (with PHP support) is the best Flash chat I ever seen.
And it is a gift for $5.

The only problem is the mentioned security hole.
If the bug will be fixed, I could give 5 of 5 points for Flash Chat.

This is good to hear.
Question: (1) Will you be releasing a formal plug-in for it then?
(2) I dont undersatnd what is being hacked in this script? If its plug-into GCommunity then GCommunity is hackable?

Thanks

Yes, I will release it, and the plugin will cost $55.
I'm pretty busy in next few weeks, but I will try to work on this project, too.

It was not completely clear in the forum, what was hacked and how.
As I understood, the hack meant, that the hacker got access to the database, so was able to change things there. But that's just a supposal.

NO, GCommunity is NOT affected by this bug, just the PHP script of FlashChat.
GCommunity has no known security bugs currently.

Apparently there is no hack at all

People arent editing thier config file to change the default admin/mod auto login like they should. Therefore it is causing people who know the script to have access as admins.”

Was this proved?
I mean the guy who reported hacking, did he tell somewhere that he forgot to change default admin values?

Apparently so!
Also, the "guy" who was hacked has not proved he was "hacked" so nothing can be proved.

Ok, no problem. I don't mind about FlashChat security, if you don't bother with it.
The bottom line is, that you need FlashChat support into RChat plugin, so I will implement it for you.

There are no more security issues, for the last time.

I also like FlashChat.
However not implemented, yet.
But if at least 3 people are interested to buy the RChat plugin for $55, then yes, I will implement FlashChat support into RChat plugin.

Do you have an example/URL showing RChat working with the present Java chat?

And what Java chat is it using?
Possibly the present java chat will be enough for us.

Thanks.

Re: [webslicer] Chat + GCommunity = Custom Job In reply to
RChat plugin currently has only
RealChat java chat
http://www.realchat.com/
integrated.

RealChat has free and paid versions, so you can decide if you want spend $0, $495, $695, $1495 for the chat server & client + $55 for the RChat plugin.

FlashChat has the advantage, that it costs only $5 (yes, five dollar) + $55 for the RChat plugin. So in overall only $60.
That's something what makes FlashChat a good choice, to have it implemented into RChat.

FlashChat implementation is however difficulter compared to the pure Java RealChat applet, as the FlashChat also has PHP codes working in the background.

Now, that tandat "throws a spanner in the works", I decided to implement FlashChat into RChat plugin for GCommunity anyway.

So buying the RChat plugin, you will get support for both RealChat java chat and FlashChat.
All within the same plugin. You will be able to choose them optionally from the plugin.

Let me know, if you are interested in my upgraded RChat plugin for GCommunity.

Hi, 33;

You can integrate it (FlashChat, which I just got running on 1 site) with Gossamer Forum seamlessly - registered users of the forum will be logged in?

Well, if GCommunity plugin is used, then yes, GForum users are also handled through GCommunity, so are handled through RChat plugin.
