can email be encrypted when it's send from a perl script? example, when someone forgets his password and requests a new one, i don't want some bad guy sniffer to grab the email en route and read the email. i don't know anything about this topic.

I can't say I've done this myself either. For some sites I use GSuite for our emails (and send as SMTP over SSL), but you have to pay for those accounts - and it means putting the whole site on GSuite (we pay about £20/month with all our different email accounts)
