Banner Rotator - Advertising....
I'm wanting to use a banner rotator for some advertising on Cricket Web.

What advertising banner rotating script is everyone here using?

I use AdCycle on most of my sites. Its not the most server friendly script in terms of cpu usage etc, but the stats for it are very good. It can also be called via SSI/IFRAME/PHP include, so its quite a versatile script in where it can be called.

I have also written a banner script, but it works on a Pay Per Click idea, in which advertisers add credit to their account. Then their advert is shown on the pages, and each time a click is made, the appropriate amount of credit is removed from their account.

There are quite a few more out there, but none more compatent and with as good tracking as AdCycle, IMO, that I have found Tongue

Hope that helps a little bit with your decision.

Yeah I did have a look. Just that there's so many to go through.

I was curious as to whether someone had found a good one that they liked.

Why do you want to put banners on your website in the first place? It only makes pages load much slower, takes away much of the valuable space on a user's screen (where you cut put something useful), and I don't think you'll earn much anyway.

This post is not supposed to be polemic. I just think that if you don't really have to put banners, you shouldn't put them.

It's worth a try isn't it. Some money is better than no money. Running a website costs money. Visitors just have to accept that webmasters have to try and get some money to cover costs.

IMHO, on sites with low budgets yet decent traffic, it makes very good sense to integrate an advertising scheme to help generate revenue.

(Even on "free" hosting, it still usually costs $15 or more a year to own a domain name, and that's still a burden on low-income families...)

Phil

Please note I haven't tried or had any experience with the above two programs. I just quickly scanned the list for powerful free banner management systems. They were the only two I could find in the first few pages with a 5 star rating and released under the GPL or similar.

Yeah, my clipart site is not on that much traffic daily (only 1.5k), yet I stil manage to make $150 a month adverts on it. It all depends on the targeting of your adverts, and who actually visits you sites. Affiliate program IMO are better, even though to start with you may not seem to be making money.

I don't think it makes sense, even for low budget sites. You can e.g. provide a list of books relevant to your topic, and become an amazon (or whatever) affiliate. That will also generate revenue, but doesn't clutter the website, and doesn't increase loading times.

If you really have quality content and people are interested in what you have on your website, you can still ask for donations (don't know if that works, never tried), to pay the 15 dollars per year....

Exactly, couldn't agree more.

OK - since they both get 5 star ratings I guess they're the best two around so I'll cope with those.

Thanks for all the responses guys Smile

I use several of them...all at cj.com. The main money making one is ScreamDesign.com, with Flash Blaster II. Another one if GuiStuff.com, which only account for about 10% of the money. I spent about 2 years finding these good affiliate programs Tongue And if those don't work for you, then there are loads more at cj.com.

yogi,

I was refering more generally to "schemes", which could range from blatent adverts (banners) to less obvious co-branding (affliates).

Erm, speak for yourself..I love em :) All together, with all of my sites, I get about $300-$400 a month in affiliate sales...and only about $15-20 for general adverts (like fastclick).

Unless you know how to cheat :-) I had one one time that was a view/click ratio payout banner, and after one view on the image, I copied the image to my site, then I ended up getting loads of revenue untill the folks caught on and banned me.
