Open Scanner Dialogue Using Javascript
I am writing a document imaging script using PHP and would like to be able to open the user's scanner dialogue box using javascript. Has anyone done this or is it even possible?

Hello Lee, Javascript is limited. It may be able to call a print() function.

I have never heard of calling a Scan() function.

Ask Bill to create th MS JS scan() function, then ask the rest of the world to do so also.

You may be able on MS Windows to use an object with which JS can talk to ?

Like a browser helper .... but is part of the scanner software .

Check with Macromedia Flash to see if they allow this.

Or you can write your own Active-X to do this.

Or just tell the client to scan a picture save it in a folder and use a file upload
to get the image off the local HD.

Sex -->> IN & OUT , repeat if necessary.

Javascript and permissions are a little harder than sex.

thanks cornball

Hello Lee, AND then I looked at http://www.vintasoft.com/vstwain-faq.html

They have an ActiveX for scanners.

have a look and read , they are probably not the only ones doing this.

Good Luck. cornball
