Yeah I read about this yesterday and it quite surprised me.

Microsoft are always trying to saturate the market so I found it strange that they'd pull out.

Shame really, IE 5 on the Mac was/is a much better browser than IE6 on the PC in terms of standard compliance.

I've noticed that quite a few of my clients and end-users who have Macs prefer Safari over Netscape and IE with its advertised improved download speeds and interface.

Although Safari is quirky with its Java Applet support. One of the CMS WYSIWYG applications that I use with clients does not work at all in Safari. :(
