Hit Back at Spammers
Interesting read here about attempts to hit back at spammers by Lycos, IBM and others, thus taking a pretty aggressive approach at spammers rather than sitting back and taking the heat as they say :

Obviously the issue with fighting back is making sure you hit back at the appropriate culprits and don't lash out at innocent parties that may have been hijacked to carry out spamming...

Our average has been around 48.03% of "Obvious Spam" blocked at SMTP stage server wide (handling ~30k messages/day). No complains about legit mails being lost except that one client could not send mail to server on interland network (just because admin at their end went about blocking based upon RBL's) -- not our fault.

Yes SA is a resource hog, but who cares when one could get a p43.4 Ghz, 2GB RAM machine for 150-170$/Mo if it's needed to run a dedicated mailserver with all it's spam/virus fighting companions.

Thanks
