That's because a majority of the world is running some version of Windows as their client, and you can't uninstall the thing. It's almost an "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em," type thing.

Whats to stop you downloading mozilla, phoenix or netscape?

Nothing, but I imagine most people just use IE because it's already there. For instance, the company I work for has made IE the standard for it's client machines, so we are ONLY allowed to use IE as a company policy. They do that because it's already installed and a part of the OS. It's easier for them to have their users use what's already there as opposed to having to install another browser to all of their clients.

It's like a car stereo. A lot of people go out and get a new stereo for their car for many reasons, but I'll be willing to bet that a majority of the world just uses the factory stereo because it's already installed and requires no additional work.

Most general users don't want the inconvenience of that. Half of general users don't even know what Netscape or Mozilla are...they just rely on what comes with their OS, and thats them done Tongue

I've not found a way to uninstall IE on XP but it didn't stop me downloading Netscape and Phoenix for testing purposes :)

ugh, ... ugh ... that sucks.
So it is totally intergrated into the system then.

well, at least it's quick on M$.

and M$ keeps tech support busy

which the tech support being kept busy means happily fed families

so I guess with such logic M$'s ploy of buggy software does make sense in the over all view.

well fed families is a good thing.

Just hope that the well fed families aren't taking away from other families that are not as fortunate.

strange thoughts here.

Similar to Konqurer on KDE I found ... It's your file navigator, your web browser and your desktop rolled into one.

ahhh, the hubbub around apple and safari is starting to make sense.

the future browser is a non-browser Cool

watch the fast one that apple will pull in a bit .... I bet they're going to do a M$ one and put their browser into the system and then get away with it while M$ is getting chastised.

@Wil
thanks for the information

Yeah, I guess so. But I believe it's all based around Internet Explorer.
