XXXXXX wants to be a good internet citizen ?
I was following up on some information on another thread on the links forum and came accross this Directory with a listing to my site.

After having a closer look I noticed the URL was not a simple redirect but to a html page and thought this may be detailed listing.

The rest is listed below.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

PS This Directory has sites in the US, UK, NZ and Australia with possible 1000's of listings.

I Entered the site at
http://www.xxxxxxx.com/Categories_Complete/Mining_Energy.htm

Scrolled to

Mining-Services.Com and the url links to
http://www.xxxxxxx.com/ValuedMerchants/Mining_Services_Com.htm

Click and it redirects to
http://www.xxxxxxx.com/ValuedMerchants/Mining_Services_Com.htm
"Object Moved
This document may be found here"

Click and redirected again to
http://w3c.xxxxxxx.com/ValuedMerchants/Mining_Services_Com.htm
"Object Moved
This object may be found here".

Click and redirected again to
http://w3c.xxxxxxx.com/indexvipsbiz.asp?ShopNoSpaces=Mining_Services_Com&Friend=Yes
"Object Moved
This object may be found here".

Click again and then finally to

http://www.mining-services.com/

NB:These are all automatic redirects.
I turned it off in the Browser so I could follow the redirects.

I decided to follow up so sent an email

I noticed my site is listed in your web directory at:
http://www.xxxxxxx.com/Categories_Complete/Mining_Energy.htm
Mining-Services.Com
www.mining-services.com
http://www.xxxxxxx.com/ValuedMerchants/Mining_Services_Com.htm

Could you please remove it and advise when this is done.
Thanks.

Thank you for your email.
What we list and how we list remains our prerogative.
You are welcome to submit an updated link description for your site or advise of any broken links.

The link you have for Mining-Services.Com is a redirect that may be detrimental to our site.
If you are refusing to remove it can you a least link directly to http://www.mining-services.com
Instead of the redirect you are using at the moment.
Thanks

I see what you mean; I did not notice the valuedmerchant directory in the link.
This phenomenon occurs from time to time.
We first saw it about two years ago but it comes and goes.
We use this directory to log the clicks out of our sites.
We use the prescribed 301 redirect so this issue should not occur but it sometimes does.
I am no search engine expert but I think when this happens it should actually benefit you as it is
supposed to transfer the PR from originating page to the destination page.
XXXXXX wants to be a good internet citizen so I will be pleased to discuss this at length with you.
We will probably learn something. ;)
We are reluctant to change or remove links because cached pages would then result in a 404.
Best regards,

Regards

Update:

I did a "allinurl:" Search in Google for mysite.

One of the listing on the first page had all my details except for my url, it was the "offending the site url".

I clicked on the “Cached” page and my site is displayed.

If I held the mouse over one of the top links on the cached page and you get shown the "offending the site url".[/b]

Googles Cache page heading.

This is G o o g l e's cache of "offending the site url" as retrieved on 1 Nov 2004 17:53:49 GMT.
G o o g l e's cache is the snapshot that we took of the page as we crawled the web.
To link to or bookmark this page, use the following url: "offending the site url".

When I click on the listing in Google with automatic redirection turned off.

1 st Redirect from the site listing. – html page.
HTTP Response Headers
HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently

2 nd Redirect – html page
HTTP Response Headers
HTTP/1.1 302 Object moved

3 rd Redirect - .asp? page.
HTTP Response Headers
HTTP/1.1 302 Object moved

And then finally arrive at my site.
HTTP Response Headers
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
