Zero Popup

Zero Popup
I got sick of XP and Kazaa and all those porn sites I visit, churning out popups and exit consoles and exit consoles with exit consoles and exit consoles with exit consoles with exit consoles and so I installed Zero Popup.

I have no idea how good it is but I have my fingers crossed, not had any popups yet :)

Has anyone heard of it or tried it?

The magic word there was Kazaa.

It is the most well known program to include spyware and scumware known to man.

Read all the fun stuff about Kazaa downloads (and all the cracker-jack surprises inseide) at scumware.org (I think org, maybe com).

XP doesn't cause pop ups. It just makes them more available.Tongue

I've read about Kazaa....I had Kazaa Lite installed for a while which is spyware free but it kept crashing.

too funny! There's a reason we don't use Mozilla: we don't care for the gui and it often displays things "correctly".

<shudder>

I think I'd prefer the exit consoles thanks.

You know what happens when you rub dog poo in your eyes?....you end up creating the GUI that Mozilla has.

I think Mozilla will be like Godzilla...

The original was OK if you were into that overdubbed, screaching "man"ster.

And every time that they try to make another one it just gets worse....LMAOWink

The GUI? You can just download a skin that will make it look exactly like Internet Explorer. You won't be able to tell the difference.

I've stopped mozilla on my system, instead, I've started to use Galeon, which seems (to me) to wrap the mozilla core engine with a couple of very cool features but seems much lighter and responsive.

I love to use Galeon when I boot to Linux. Too bad there's no win32 port. Mad I do have to admit that Mozilla/Netscape 6 are much more forgiving on bad html coding than in prior versions. I hated Netscape because I'd constantly be viewing sites that looked broken in Netscape but appeared fine in Explorer.

Just imagine if the strict pragma existed for HTML... (yes, I know there is a strict dtd, but do dtd's really do anything???) Script kiddies would go insane trying to figure out why their site created with FrontPage Express is dysfunctional.

Anyone tried the Mandrake 9 beta yet? I'm downloading the cd iso's right now and will be giving it a test install sometime today.

You'd be a fine salesman ;)

"Download our fantastic product, it's really ugly but that doesn't matter because you can download even more files from our site to make it look like a competitors product."

I think I'll just stick with the better browser but thanks for your input.

Slashdot was talking about Opera gearing up to speed their engine up again, though repututation is that it's already the fastest browser in many areas. (I stopped using it as never could get used to the MDI)

Yes, I quite like the HTML/javascript/css support for mozilla as well. IE does do some wierd stuff... but it still would be nice if we didn't have to make multiple versions of the same file Tongue

PS. your sig seems to be saying something along the lines of, "can't do too much eh?" wassup? <- said with a thick ninja-homie accent.

hehe.. I was wondering how long it would take for someone to catch that! I started studying Japanese in my spare time about a week ago when I had that nasty HD failure. It's just a little taunt at myself for not making an effort to do cd backups.

ninja-homie accent?? LMAO! I could just about imagine someone speaking a whacked mix of Japanese, Ebonics, and jive. I speak Japanese with a Spanish accent. Blush

I'm just so used to using Galeon that I can't use IE. Why? Everytime I use IE, I'm plagued with popup's (you can enable/disable popup's very easily in Galeon for when you need them). I guess you can get programs to close them or whatnot for IE, but then what about those full page ads which show up over the text (not sure what they're coded in)? I don't think any program is going to get rid of those ads. Galeon's cookie management is pretty nice too.

The only thing that bugs me about Galeon right now is the view source on frames, and that sometimes pages don't display correctly (but that actually doesn't happen that much nowadays).

IE's still a good browser, but I just can't stand all those popup ads everywhere Tongue

I used to have Morpheus for awhile till that got too slow, tried iMesh recently and it works pretty well. I think Panicware's pop up stopper is what I used to use though, and it's pretty nice. If you don't want popups, fine, turn it on, but while browsing, holding the "control" key down will allow popups, so you can allow it when it's pertinant.

It's a pretty satisfying feeling to see your try icon tell you that a popup was just stopped.. I've seen another version that actually makes a explosion noise when it stops a pop to add to the enjoyment. Tongue

Just be objective and check this out:
101 things Mozilla can do that IE cannot

Re: [gurry] Zero Popup In reply to
I scanned down about 1/4 of that list and several of them can be done with IE and if they can't it takes a couple of seconds to do it manually such as "cookie browsing"

By holding down Ctrl and moving the mouse wheel, with IE you can enlarge/shrink the web page text - you can't do that with Mozilla Tongue

Re: [gurry] Zero Popup In reply to
Hm... some of those points are valid, some are simply incorrect, and the bulk are so trivial that most people would probably never care if the feature existed.

Well, as far as software like browsers go everyone will have his/her own personal taste but if we are comparing two products we must put forth pros and cons of each of them. I think I have presented my case in favour of Mozilla. It would be a better discussion if you guys could inform why IE is better? Or Mozilla is worse? The only thing being held against Mozilla is it's GUI. It's a pity I don't presently have a screen capture utility to put up a screenshot, but you may try 'modern' and 'orbit' skins on Mozilla. IE GUI doesn't even half compare.

By the way, you can enlarge/shrink a webpage with mousewheel in Mozilla just as you described only if you choose so from preferences. You might not even have to take the additional trouble of pressing the 'ctrl' key if you desire. By default, mousewheel is assigned to scrolling, which I suppose is quite sane.

I scanned down about 1/4 of that list and several of them can be done with IE and if they can't it takes a couple of seconds to do it manually such as "cookie browsing

Might you inform us which 'several of them' are being referred to?

and the bulk are so trivial that most people would probably never care if the feature existed.

I might be wrong, but what you call trivial are probably ones to do with common web standards. Standards are as important as having a common language lack of which leads only to disorder. Standards like IP which we take for granted today are essential for function of the Internet. Besides, they help prevent monopolists like Microsoft take over and change everything to their favour thus tilting the common playing field. For example, there are certain tags in HTML which only IE understands and implements. They are not included in the standard set of HTML. Now since 95% of the world uses Windows, IE is their browser by default and poor ignorant fellows think that IE's behaviour is the standard every other browser's performance is to be measured against. Some would call a browser inferior just because the srollbar doesnt change to an ugly colour according to those special MS tags.

Well to cut a long rant short, IE is thus provided with an unfair advantage. Average Joe 'never cares' because he's ill-informed. I am not asking anyone to 'care' about these 'features', but at least they should not be held against the product just because the developers wanted to play the game by the rules.

I dislike IE not only because it can't do '101 things that Mozilla can' but also because I hate Microsoft for it's fraudulent dealings. I, for one, don't want to be fooled by some Billy boy.

I rest my case.

@ gurry
You a mac user ? Wink

@ browsers
I was all NS for years then I went to IE for a bit becuase it was the best on the market for my system at the time. But lo' and behold I'm on Mozilla. I would be on OmniWeb becuase it's on hell of a beauty, GUI and rendering but alas little things like java and CSS still has problems.

What really pisses me off is that web browsers are like "the most" integeral part of the web and all of the browsers on the market just SUCK! When is a browser gonna catch up with at least ADSL in terms of web life.

hehe, me too now since OSX is BSD!

I love unix actually. The only reason I didn make the transfer earlier was that the timing was too early. Though today the edge for apple is just a tad on it's side since many major software companies are on OSX versus a Linux flavor. BUT, I bet that it won't be that long before Linux gets more major software companies porting OSX apps to *nix

Cool
