Darn It!
You know what I really hate, its when you suddenly find your default browser error page has changed to

http://www.roar.com/client/?sh=47779

This has happened in the last 30 minutes and I ain't even been at any sites apart from robotstxt.org

That reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally pisses me off.

Run AdAware with the latest .sig file.
Check your system for viruses.
Update your browser at windowsupdate.microsoft.com

That shouldn't happen.

Or just use a decent browser to start with ...

It turns out it was a rewrite rule I used on my site that was redirecting me to one site which was then redirecting me to the porn. It was a typo in the rewrite code which was easy to fix so thank goodness nothing was installed on my pc.

No, just some good old fashioned advice. You'd be suprized how well Mozilla, Phonix and the others have come. They have *way* passed IE in terms of features. IE is, I'd say, close to two years behind the more advanced browsers now.

The issue of something installing itself on my pc without my permission bears no relevance to the browser, if anything it is the users fault for not setting security settings properly.

Uh. No. Check again. IE had a security flaw recently that allowed sites to bypass the 'Click Yes to accept certificate' message so that you can run any code as you've signed for it's saying it's secure. My operating logs still show a huge majority of people still using this version of IE.

And?

That's called "a bug". It doesn't prove that security is down to the browser and not the user. In normal circumstances the user plays as big a part as the software.

Internet Explorer is well known for being shipped with security settings turned to the very lowest needed to operate. Other browsers are far more cautious by default.

That's not true at all. The security settings in Phoenix are poor IMO.

Infact Netscape too.
