Thanks for the link. VERY interesting...!

Just as an update, the FAQ at the xupiter.com site did have an unistall program and that did the trick.

Thanks andy, I do have Netscape in various version, even Mozilla. For all the MS bashing, I'm just lazy and still use IE.

Heck, about the only thing that MS could make that would not suck is a vacuum cleaner!

I was rather stunned to see my browser head for Xupiter.com this morning myself, especially since I'm the only one who's used it, and I haven't downloaded or installed anything on this system in days. The browser was fine when I got on early this morning, but something happened in between the morning and afternoon. So I did some looking in my history...I don't know if there's a connection, but it seems awfully coincidental to me. In today's history are two links, one to http://webpdp.gator.com/...hp?yic=HIC_AdDynamix and another to http://webpdp.gator.com/...hp?yic=HIC_AdDynamix

What's odd about these two links is that first off, I never visited gator.com, I uninstalled gator many months ago, completely cleaned my system of all traces of it. And both of these links have NO TITLE...they just show up as blank links. I don't have any other links that do that in my history...So I'm thinking this is all kind of strange, cleaning out the Xupiter stuff is no biggie, but how in the world did this critter come to live on my system?

So I checked the history in the order the links were viewed. Lo and behold, I find a link to http://www.xupiter.com/...install/install.html in between a site I visited called "Porcelain Dolls for sale" at http://www.fortunecity.com/...macau/868/dolls.html and the next page at collectiblesnet.com.... I'm figuring that something on that page links people to the Xupiter.com installation. And the other references to gator.com came interestingly enough right after I discovered Xupiter.com was suddenly my startup page. Right after that, were the two blank gator.com links and then one to "gatordef.html" which was really http://banners.pennyweb.com/gator/gatordef.html

So what does one make of all this? Maybe it's all coincidental (yeah, right) and maybe it shouldn't be a big deal. At least it's not a virus! But I don't like having my browser start page hijacked without my knowledge or consent.

I ran 'Spybot: Search and Destory' on my sister's "loaded full of free crap" machine to clean a lot of spyware off it.

LINK: http://beam.to/spybotsd

I was impressed and think it's probably worth recommending to others.

Xupiter can't be trusted!

Although it's true that their uninstall program removes that outward appearance of their spyware, it also loads your registry up with even more garbage.

Our base payout is $35/trial signup but I am willing to start you off at $40/trial signup because I really want your business. Also, our sites are niche and convert extremely well and outperform most programs on the web. It would be great if you could throw our banners up for a week to see what I mean. If you have any questions at all feel free to phone me or email me and if you do decide to give us a try, email me with your account username so I can adjust your payrate to $40/signup. Let me know.
