Pop-ups!

Pop-ups!
Mmm...it seems that even the big sites are resorting to pop-ups now! Yahoo, MSN, and a few others I have noticed. Is it me, or are they extremly annoying? I don't mind the pop-under ones, as you can still view the page, and then close them when you are finished...but the ones that pop-up on top of the page you are browsing REALLY gets on my nerves Frown

Next to spam, pop-ups are my biggest irk.

I wont go back to any site that has more than a few pop-ups (like more than 2!). I used one of those pop-up stoppers for a while, but it prevents me from seeing things I want to see sometimes. It was almost as irritating as the pop-ups themselves!

I can't see why the "big guys" are resorting to these awful things. I will NEVER have pop ups on any of my sites, and I don't allow submitters to have excess on theirs either.

One more reason to download and use Mozilla! You can choose to turn off pop-ups and pop-unders with Mozilla :-)

Security Hole Found
Software company GreyMagic has found a minor security hole in Mozilla 0.9.2+ and Netscape 6.1+ that allows reading of local files.

Minor?....um if this was M$ it would be "MAJOR"

How do you shut off pop ups in ie without disabling Javascript? Mozilla has a nice little checkbox to just disable popups, everything else still works.

Cheers,

Yep, this is what I thought, too. I have yet to see that feature in IE.

You can get a toolbar plugin for IE that does this, but it doesn't work to well; it blocks popups even when initiated manually (rather than automatic on pageload).

Does MS still base Explorer on Mozilla or no? If so they really ought to add some of these nifty features in.

I personally prefer Galeon as an interface for Mozilla, rather than using Mozilla itself.

Yep, and IE does not have a built-in feature to turn them off.

Dinner. Hm...

/me thinks it's like playing word association how these threads go off-topic so easily.

You're the one that liked hot food right? I cooked some real bad boy peppers tonight. Got them from this local specialised organic food and they were bad! He gets all these dodgy imported stuff that absolutely blow your head off. Anyway, I cooked them with this meal => http://www.menshealth.co.uk/.../safeway/index.html# scroll down for the lime chicken <= .. highly reccomended!

LOL! That's a great all-round magazine. The website is a bit skinny on content but is getting better.
