Well 98 was out for a good while. Most home users don't upgrade until they buy a new machine (average users, not techno geeks like us). It's hard enough getting them to keep up with basic patches.

I note on my stats that XP has already surpassed 98ME users.

I actually have 12 webtv subscribers to my forum. That just blows me away.

Those users deserve some sort of award for persistence or something.

It's strange how some sites have a high majority of users using W98 and others have hardly any W98 users.

Just think in the time it took to get those stats you could have checked out my karma plugin *wink*

I project the median age to be 42 or so. The site attracts people from 3 distinct age brackets.

1. Children of W.W.II vets, baby boomers, or extended family of the same generation (researching uncles, cousins, etc). Ages 35 to 54.

2. W.W.II veterans or surviving wife/sibling of the service member. These senior citizens are online in surprising numbers.

Roughly 75 to 85 on the top end.

3. The grandchildren of W.W.II veterans, the Generation X group. Ages 25-34.

That makes total sense then as per why the 95 and 98 are so high in the percentages in your stats.

Cool!

This little trek into the world of OS stats is not helping the penquins much though!Blush

But the Mac numbers are actually coming up on our sites with the Linux going down. THat is kind of interesting!Wink

It is interesting.

Factors could be numerous. Off the top of my head I'll guess:

1) Geographic origin of users, i.e., are European users more independent from MS than the North American market (I would suspect so).

2) Sites tailored to the professional, technically oriented, user versus the average "turn it on hope to a higher power the darn thing works" home user.
