My favorite kind of email
I thought carefully about posting this publically but I don't think it will matter now as I don't expect the gentleman to become a client.

I received this email today regarding a demo for my chat script:

Quote:
When someone as myself is considering the purchase or acquisition of new
software and visit a DEMO page of the software itself, the last thing we
need to run into is page after page of registration forms, email
verifications and all kinds of other nonsense that does neither of us
any good.

When looking at a DEMO page, the most practical thing for a SELLER to do
is make the DEMO of their product as easily accessed as possible.
Marketing strategies have shown and been proven in the marketplace
itself, that the more obstacles you place in front of someone trying to
test or view your product, the faster they are likely to lose interest
and move on to another product which requires less effort and time.

It serves no REAL purpose to make someone register and be validated just
to test or demo a chat script DEMO. It does little more than run folks
away in search of a chat script with less obstacles.

Someone will say, "Well, at least we have your email address!" let me
tell you that whatever you gain in collecting email addresses is lost in
people avoiding your product and the redundant, monotonous and meritless
registration and validiation process you require, JUST TO VIEW A DEMO.

It is irritating. It is really, fruitless and I suspect it costs you far
more potential customers for your product than you even realize. I know
it ran me away. I wanted to view your product DEMO, but I simply refuse
to play such games when trying to do something as simple as view a DEMO
of a product you may be trying to market.

Want to run people away, place obstacles between them and your product.

It's very basic marketing strategy... AND FACT!

The funny thing is, on the demo page in bolded text it says "READ" and then goes on to explain how to login to the demo using the pre-registered accounts so you don't have to signup and validate.

I kindly sent him back to the login page and asked him to re-read it.

That is sheer brilliance... I like the fact that he rambled on and on... Anyone that does something like that, probably isn't the best customer to support anyway. What he'd probably do if he bought your script is find some little thing he didn't like, or for heaven's sake a bug, and ball you out completely.

I think you are probably right.

I'm not sure he understood what the registration process was for. I think he thought I'd just added it in to collect personal details before letting anyone try the demo but actually it was simply the registration page for the chat room, which is an integral part of the script to assign usernames and passwords in order to generate a user profile.

Oh well, the best I can hope for is that he felt a little embarrased at realising his mistake Smile

He was probably confusing it with sites that make you register before downloading a demo/trial version of something. Did he enter a full registration?

I haven't checked to be honest. He seems to be the first person to have any trouble as although I set up 5 demo accounts for people to use, another 100 users have registered using the actual registration page.

You're best response would hve been something like:

I'm sorry you are not feeling well, I can refer you to a proctologist if you want. In the mean time I would recommend a good laxative and in short you should feel right as rain. TTFN.
