I just found this by chance.

That code was written by me quite a while ago and posted at Gossamers Forum, I even remember Eliot testing it out and telling me it wasn't working properly and Brewt pointed out it was because /proc/ was different on different servers.

Now monster-submit seem to think they own the code.

I'll be firing off an email.

Code looks exactly the same as the script you wrote with the exception of the HTML emdedded in the script rather than using templates.

Hi Paul:

We wrote this freeware script [Server Check] back in 1999. It has undergone
a number of revisions since then, with the last revision released in
February, 2002. In February, one of our visitors submitted a revised script
to us that expanded the functionality of the script by adding 'server specs'
and enhanced 'whereis' usage - as it included information that he required,
or at least was curious about. He then bundled the revisions into the
existing 'main' sub and newly created 'get_server' sub. Otherwise, the code
remains as it was - including the getMOD sub.

I got him to replace the code ;)

He is still using chunks of my code which he claims is his own, but i'm not really fussed, the code was shit.

Always good to hear. I had someone steal my Template.pm from Links2 and remove the copyright header and make it GPL. His defense? "There was a comment in the code saying it was based off CGI::FastTemplate which is GPL". If he had even asked, or looked at CGI::FastTemplate he would see there is 0 resemblance.

Be careful what you put in the comments. =)

Cheers,

Alex
