I need help with.... please...
I'm new here and not sure if this is where I am supposed to post general questions. I have just started using php and mysql. I installed a phpguestbook on my website and in the instructions it tells me to give write permission to a couple of files. When I go to do this with an FTP program it tells me that "chmod 777 - command not understood". Can someone help me as to what I need to do. When I connect to my site with the FTP it says it is UNIX. I am really confused on this one. Any help would be appreciated.

I am considering switching to a web host that provides cgi, is cgi easier than php? How does cgi compare with php/mysql?

First things first, ask your host whether your server is linux/unix or windows :) ....your ftp client may still say something like "UNIX Standard" on windows.
