Yeah, I've noticed this before. Gossamer Threads have been mirroring for years - they also have MySQL and a lot of RFCs up there:

I understand that. What I was saying was that there are loads of mirroring software available for *ix platforms. You don't have to use the one supplied by CPAN if you don't understand it.

Ohh.

Any links?

I would understand it if they quit with the "jokes" and got on with the important stuff....all the perl peeps think they are comedians too.

"Remember things are closer than they look in a mirror"....if written in the README...ugh.

LOL! Good stuff, huh!

I'm lucky here as our local Uni keep a really good mirror of all decent Linux distributions and software which I can just download in a fraction of a second. I guess yours should have one too. Have you tried ftp.youruni.ac.uk? Obviosuly replacing youruni <g>.

Ive got a feeling this is going to take a while...even at about 300kb/s :)

My uni doesn't allow anonymous ftp access unless you are logged in from their network.

Yeah - why do you want to mirror CPAN anyway?

To provide a service for your customers, clients, local people, or to provide a service for an area where no other mirror exists?

Re: [Wil] CPAN In reply to
Especially handy, for example here in Wales, as no other mirror exists; so if I provide one I can provide faster access to the files for many people on local dialups. :-)

Yup, but it doesn't have to be for one of those reason...it can be for fun :)

Yawn....

Getting file 'authors/id/G/GR/GRAHAMC/SiePerl-5.6.1-bin-1.3-Win32.INSTALL.exe'

Just deciding how best to display it publically. A symlink perhaps to /usr/local/mirror or an alias?

Re: [Paul] CPAN In reply to
We use rsync to do our mirrorings:

/usr/bin/rsync -av --delete -e /usr/bin/ssh YOURMIRROR /home/mirrors/www/CPAN > /home/mirrors/cpan.log 2>&1

this is nice as it only transfers changed files, and is very fast. We've become stale it seems as the person we are mirroring off has been getting max users errors.

Cheers,

Alex

After about 5 hours my mirroring finished.

I used fmirror:

Ugh it decided to be sucky and install under /usr/local/mirror/mirror instead of /usr/local/mirror

Re: [Alex] CPAN In reply to
Well thats a bit strange. I symlinked to /usr/local/mirror and when I do that I see:

http://www.wiredon.net/mirror/

However using webmin I can see everything is properly mirrored in /usr/local/mirror but it only shows a "mirror" directory yet there should be "authors", "modules", "ports" etc....hmmm
