I can see the sense their, but am I not right in saying that each guy paid originally with a £10 note and they received £1 back, so in fact the money each guy spent was £9 each.

Plus that of £2 the bell boy took, again the way its worded theres £1 short. We all know there not, but wheres the error in the email, what is the part that catches you out.

The answer is that there is no missing $1. They are just trying to confuse the reader with faulty logic regarding checks and balances. It all adds up when done properly. Or am i missing something in a truly blond moment.

To put it a better way, the [Three Guys] paid $9 per, for a total of $27. The [Desk Clerk] received $25. The [Bellboy] received $2. Then you either (1) add the [Bellboy] $2 to the [Desk Clerk] $25, or (2) subtract from the [Three Guys] $27. You do not add to the [Three Guys] $27 as they do in this teaser. So no missing $1 if you do the math right.
