He can pay for it, I ain't.

Mmm I want cable tv in my bedroom.

We have a cable from the NTL box on the front of the house to the downstairs tv, then a cable from that tv to my pc for my cable modem.

I want to be able to watch whatever on the tv in my room without having to watch what my parents are watching...I guess that means I need a second set top box and then need to run another cable to my room?

If you want to watch a different channel, yes, you will need another box. No way around that. :-\

However, why don't you get a TV adapter for your computer, at least then you could watch all the free-to-air channels on your PC.

When you say free to air do you mean terrestrial or cable too?...will they come through my RC-45 cable?

I have a normal tv already in my room.

Ah. No, but you can buy a set-top box for < 100 that give you access to all the free-to-air stations on your cable box, with no monthy subscription charges.

Yes. It's a new concept for the UK, however. Pace have just released a few boxes to do this. They are very new to the market. However, you have been able to buy TVs with built-in free-to-air boxes since Christmas last year.

Cheers

Hi
Would it not be as easy to have your Domain Name point to an online server, with a web page that redirects to your home Mac or PC server with the dynamic IP.
As the IP might change just login to that web page and change the IP.
All done no need for any third party.
Or even have the Mac or PC via apple script, detect the IP change and update the web page containing the IP redirection automatically.

Or have I missed something

I mentioned something similar above.

It seems that PCs can't do that. Or everybody is looking for a more hardcore way to the same thing.
