I am using 'mint' templates with lot of modifications. If I upgrade, these will be overwritten. Right?

1. So I just replace new 'mint' directory with the present mint directory? Or I have to add the modifications for each file in new mint directory files itself?

2. I added many form fields too during link submissions. So if I am lazy enough now not to include them in new version, will the database affected?
