Excellent idea. The main thing is to be proactive with the information rather than reactive.
Maybe assigning an approval stamp (so to say) from GT based on a specific version? Then as the testing is done on a new version the plugin can be tested and a new stamp given by GT or the author.
One drawback on this is that it may slow the "to market" time down a bit due to the certification and stamp assignment process.
