Outlook archive to Gossamer, lessons learned
I'm not 100% sure this topic relevant so if this is posted in the wrong spot, I trust others to move it.

Should any of you ever need to transfer an e-mail archive to your Gossamer forum, maintained in MS Outlook (2002, 2000, 98, or even Express), I offer the following.

While you can export delimited data in a variety of handy formats from Outlook, you cannot export date and time fields for messages. This would seem to be a colossal oversight on Microsoft's part, but that's the way it is.

I spent too much time today researching ways to force this data from Outlook, third party solutions and so forth. Finally, at the bottom of a semi-related KB article, I discovered this. Yes it is true that you cannot export date and time information from an Outlook PST - but you can IMPORT all the information you would ever want from within Access.

After beating my head against the table and crying "why, why?", I completed a very painless import and obtained an impressive table full of glorious data. Access handles PST files like butter on Britney Spears. Tonight my db guru dude will incorporate some 17,000+ messages into our database and we will continue on as if this whole thing had never happened.

For those of you who knew this already, my bloody forehead laughs in your general direction.Mad
