Gossamer Threads Release Gossamer Forum

Has anyone seen Gossamer Forum, which has just been released for download?

http://gossamer-threads.com/scripts/gforum/

I like the look of it, although I haven't actually tried it yet.

I think it is ok although it doesn't seem to good enough to be compared with Vb.

Actually its $200 if you run it on a commercial site. It's free like Links 2 if you use on a non-commercial site. Only have to leave the copyright and register the site you use it on.
But I agree it ain't php.

Actually that is not the case (at least according to their site).

You can download a 30 day demo, or you can pay $200

Actually the email that they sent me announcing the release had:

quote:

Gossamer Forum is released under the same terms as our flat file version of Links: free for individual and non-profit use (providing you keep the powered by link), US$200 for commercial use or users who want to remove the powered by link.

But on that download page on their site said 30 day trial.... don't sure which is right...

The script is in its infancy, still a beta, in fact. It has a very long way to go to begin to match vBulletin. However, this is only the latest piece in GT's long-term plan to offer a set of integrated scripts for building Web "communities" that will have a single user authentication module, as well as other shared features, making it easy to become familiar with and administer all modules. And, despite being written in PERL, GT scripts make extensive use of templates. The core is Links SQL, though, which isn't cheap for non-commercial Web sites, but the package should be a formidable competitor to the very expensive content-management, community-building offerings. They've also recently begun to have manuals for the scripts professionally written, which is a big plus, IMO.

Note: This is not a promotion.

Yes vbulletin rocks...however Gossamer Threads has some very capable programmers and I like the look and feel of their new boards.

Hats off to them!
