Problem is "time". Once cut, it has to be packaged in a form that will allow it to be easily imported into a remote server. This would usually require a script, rather than a direct import.
So, by dividing it up, the time is shared, and each person only pays a portion of the actual time required to create the dumps.
And, the machine I'm doing it on, even at todays prices, is at least 4.5-5k, and was 7+k when installed 2 years ago. That import will take up a good portion of that machine for a half day or more. That's a lot of "cost" when you look at it. Then there is the time to create the individual cuts, and package the dumps, etc.
I can see this as a useful service, and I've touched upon it over the past year or so, but it's very possible now, as long as there is enough interest to make it work -- from a financial point of view. It's a lot of "time" to do it all. both computer time and human time. That is expensive.
