Yahoo templates-a little OT

Yahoo templates-a little OT
I just got a call from a Yahoo lawyer asking me to change my site name. I told her I would put up a disclaimer which I am in the process of doing. Not sure it's over yet. Be warned.

I wouldn't worry.

They would have a Loooong way to go to demonstrate any sort of problems. If you load both pages into a browser and flip between them, the differences are enough that there is no cause for any confusion in the market place, and your logo has a completely different swing to it.

The lawyers have to do something with their salaries....

I appreciate that vote of confidence. I can use all the words of encouragement I can get right now. I have a lot of time and money into this.

Tell them to get stuffed, and if they're that keen on your name, the domain is for sale at the right price!

They're just bugged cos they let the Open Directory get away with using www.newhoo.com

Actually newhoo doesn't use that name any more. They use dmoz. Click on your own url and it will redirect to http://dmoz.org/ .

There are tons of sites using "hoo" in their name...they don't have any ownership rights to a syllable and they know it. Or perhaps they think they own "fish"?

They don't own the word "yahoo" either...its a common word found in any dictionary and therefore can't be copyrighted. They can only trademark their logo, etc.

Tell them "no", but do be polite about it. If it was me, I wouldn't even put up a disclaimer.
