Searching reviews
Hi

I was just wondering whether there were any plans to allow searching of reviews in the Links 3. I just found this searching through the fourm and I was wondering if the same type of mod was required for the V3 :

It looks like the reviews have supported passing in 'keyword' for searching reviews, though it's broken. I've fixed it and it'll be in the final release.

Thanks for that response Adrian.

I think it's because it's pretty late here but I didn't quite understand the concept of the function you describe... Could you just elaborate a bit...

Just pass in keyword=searchforthis to review.cgi and it'll search for that.

Hi Adrian,

I think I didn't explain what I was trying to do properly. I was wanting to allow people to go through search.cgi and be able to search both links and reviews and hopefully offer the option to search either or both and display results of categories, links and reviews seperately...

I'm thinking that since you refer to review.cgi that this isn't a search type query where results are displayed...

Thanks, John

I'm trying to build this into the blog program now. For clarity sake, I'll start refferring to it as BeadBlogger and/or TheJollyBlogger.

Alex said the code for searching other tables is in the search modules.

If I figure it out, I'll post it.

But, some people at GT might be in a better position to give a few more specifics ;)

I'd really like some one-stop place for how to add a table to the searchable/index list of links.

Many plugins collect/store data that would be great to have indexed, and reporated on separately.

But, in some ways, you'd still want to separate the returned results eg:

Categories
Links
Messages
Comments
Reviews
Items For Sale
User Profiles

etc.

I did this by writing a plugin. It takes in a Table variable and if it is contained in the list in the plugin, it runs a prehook to search that table, otherwise it goes to the original sub and runs a normal search.

However, I only have it displaying results for a single table. Would be nice to also have the option to display results from several tables.

Also to get the plugin working I also needed to modify the core code slightly in Search.pm which is annoying.

Right... that's why I'm hoping some more input from GT ;)

It would be nice to be able to add table/fields to the search. This is not my immediate project, but will be shortly. Still getting some bugs/quirks of the comments system fixed up to release that, then the blogger, then whatever that program I was working on before, then the ratings/review, then ..... ? They should start coming regularly.

Ideally, the plugin would take a table name (at any time) and add it to the search list. Fields are then indexed by weight, etc.

Hi pugdog,

are there any news on this? I was thinking about a table with options per link where one link can have some options within one category and you can filter the options e.g. color, percentage and so on.

Thanks
