Problem with required fields

Problem with required fields
I am running version 2.0.6 and I have a weird problem with required fields.

These were running normally until suddenly they started to go wrong. Basically what started to happen is this:

1) Whenever a user tried to register, they would get an error message saying that they needed to fill all the required fields, even if they actually did fill all of them.

2) The program would in fact tell the user to fill ALL the required fields even if none is empty.

So, I have had to deactivate all my required fields to allow users to register. But I would need to know what is causing this.

Thanks.

I have now upgraded to version 2.1.0, but the same problem continues.

As per your question, no. No unusual characters, except for things like * in the description field in the "Form Display" column. This colums holds descriptive information for the fields being filled out. I use the * in the description as a way of telling which field is required when the form is being viewed in the admin.

I did post the error message in my previous message. The error is one that says that "Field x cannot be left blank" when submiting the registration form. But as I said, the error occurs even if the fields are all filled out.

So, as for now, I have de-activated all the required fields, but I would appreciate being able to require some fields so I can collect some data about the people signing up.

Thanks.

How did you go about changing the required fields? I'd like to do the same on a local install and see if it happens here too.

I am not sure what your question means.

I did not change the required fields. GM comes already with Last Name and First Name required.

In addition to the default fields, I defined additional fields in the demographics area using a how to that was posted on this forum. This seems to interact well with the fields as defined in the demographics area.

However, all the fields that I defined as required do not work as they should.

Basically, filling in the join form is OK. Here , everything works fine. However, when a visitor arrives at the last registration window after having defined the question and the username and paswords, then the form comes back, telling him that the required fields (that he just filled out) could not be left blanck and that they are in invalid format.

THat's my doom.

Though Not very sure, just check the following templates:

join_login_include.htm

join_all_include.htm

wrt the changes that you have made to the signup form....

Interestingly, I see none of those files in my template editor.

Should they be in there?

I have join.htm, join_login.htm, join_phrase.htm, join_success.htm and join_register.htm but not those.

Hi,

Why not upgrade to the new version. I am not sure about the 2.0.6 version. Probably the Author would be in a better position to anwer that....

Well, your advice was good.

I basically added those fields to my join_login.htm and join_phrase.htm, and it worked. THanks, man.

But now I am puzzled. Those files that you mentioned, they do not seem to be in my templates set, yet I did upgrade to 2.1. I followed the instructions about first upgrading, then copying the old templates over the new ones, so that the new extra templates can be available.

I am using neither the nessa nor the brewt template sets per se because I did not want to begin redesigning everything again.

How different are these templates from the old ones, and how do they affect the functionning of GM? Perhaps the programmers can clarify this?

My GT /GM experiences have started with GM 2.1.0a so I am not sure about what was there in 2.0.6. Good that your prob is solved.

But the problems that I have remain unsolved and I do not see a ray of hope. And the problems are so many that I keep posting to Forum but it seems that I am on iggy.
