Install problem, timeout maybe??

Install problem, timeout maybe??
Trying to install for the first time.

I start the install.cgi script, it asks some questions, on setup (no problem) then it gets to the unarchive stage, and stops at:

Unarchiving (644) /usr/local/etc/httpd/cgi-bin/gforum/admin/GT/SpellCheck/config.txt

and thats it, no more instructions. What do I do now?

Many Thanks
Jan

Your webserver is probably killing the install before it can complete. Try using the lite=1 option (install.cgi?lite=1) to disable the MD5 file checks.

I tried that but the process stops at the same place.. hmm..

I checked the error_log and I see an "Out of Memory!" message popup every time I try this.

would stopping mysql at this stage fix this problem? how do you do that?

FYI I am running a virtual server with access to all conf files, logs, mysql etc...

Thanks again for your help.

Regards
Jan

Hi,

We have seen this on some ISP's. It's because the web hosting system you are on only allowed 8 megs of memory, as soon as you go over it kills the script. The installer unfortunately needs more memory then that, even though the program doesn't.

I would send a message to your ISP asking if they can remove the limit temporairly, or have them run install.cgi.

We are looking at reducing the memory required by the installer.

Cheers,

Alex
