using Gossamer Mail on a virtual server

using Gossamer Mail on a virtual server
Hi,

I've set up a web site for my town:

http://www.castletown.org.im/

which is hosted by a UK company. The Town Library has just installed an Internet access computer, and we would like to be able to offer a free email service using the domain. It's unlikely that we would have more than 50 users.

As the server hosts many domains, is Gossamer mail likely to cause any problems? I'm thinking mainly of the load on the server.

I've also run across a couple of problems installing scripts where the executables expected to be in the same directory as the html. Our host only allows executables to run from cgi-bin: is this likely to cause problems?

All we need now is to persuade a local company to stump up the price of the script and we'll be in business :)

1) Yes, you will most likely run into load problems.

2) It is not a problem to "run" GM through any folder in your account. Just so that the folder allows executable files. You can move the template files into another folder in your account and just change references within the GM script.

Hi,

No, I would disagree. With only 50 users or so, I don't imagine load being much of an issue. Gossamer Mail has been designed to be able to run on a virtual, as well as being able to scale to multiple servers. Having a scalable solution was one of our initial design choices so that users could start with a small system and relatively cheap hardware, and scale up as the user base grows.

You do not need a dedicated server to run Gossamer Mail.

As for images/html, during install you are asked for four directories: cgi files, data files, batch files, and html files. They can be installed in any directory you like. So no, that won't be a problem.

Cheers,

Alex
