Add Category loop error
Whenever I try to add categories, I filled out the form and then click Add Category. it brings me back to the Admin page. I don't understand this. Also my rebuilds have errors too. I can't fix this. Any help would be hot!

Take a look at http://www.hentailab.com/cgi-bin/admin/admin.cgi

Please guide me through this.

Is this a first-time install? Or a new error on a previously working site? What errors do get? Specifics help...

Despite what the default info is, beginners do best with a set-up like so:

http://yoursite.com/...inks/admin/admin.cgi

Put the directories in just like you unzipped 'em: all the directories in the download's cgi-bin folder into /links/.

Then, make sure you set the PATHS and URLS correctly.

yes this is my first time setting up on this server. I will try your advice and see. ^_^

I get errors when I used Build all, Staggered, Staggered (Auto) etc.

Here is error when Build all:

You do have some links, and not just categories, right? Well, it dosen't look like it, actually. You can't build without at least one link. Try that...

I've tried the script all over again but this time in a different layout: http://www.hentailab.com/...inks/admin/admin.cgi instead of http://www.hentailab.com/cgi-bin/admin/admin.cgi.

I still get the same errors for Build All:

Yep,

I am getting the same problem here, and I have some familiarity with Perl - have wirtten a few scripts and installed over 100.

Bottom line, I cannot figure out an answer.

The category add and link add in the admin simply loops back to the main admin page and does not update the categories.db file.

I was hoping to solve this without going through every line of code in the script. it appears that every question that has been asked on this has not been answered as I have spent a couple of hours serching through the forum.

Anyway, I am giving up for now and will attack it later, but if anyone has an answer to this problem, please post it - it will save me several hours of time.

Hello....??

I saw some smart alec chastised a "customer", obviously you take that term lightly, for not being patient with the "volunteers" on this board.

Last time I looked, you want green backs for this product. Since you want my cash, how about answering my question.

If this is an open source script, I understand the smart asses. But bucks are demanded and so are answers.

You REALLY need to do something with your posts! Talking to everyone like that is one sure way NOT to get replies. People here are volunteers, and do all of this support FREE. i.e we don't get anything bakc in return for it. Just because someone like you wants to come along and shout their mouth off, it dopesn't make us any more inclined to answer your posts.

Maybe if you sorted out your etiquette in your posts, you would get a reply or two Wink

Just my 2 cents.

Ok...

My apologies. Quite obviously I did not understand the nature of this forum.

I still think, however, that this script is one buggy thing to be "commercial".

Also, guys, to be very honest, this question (the looping) has been asked multiple times and not answered by anyone, regardless of their attitude. Not trying to be a pain, just stating what I have found by searching the forum.

I have solved the problem and it required going into several .cgi scripts and changing them, just to get the thing operational. One should not have to do this on a commercially ready product - and that is where my "attitude" came from. I should have read the forums closer and I would have understood that they are much like the macromedia extensions forums where users extend the product.

I will not be laying out the $150 for this product because, IMO, there are General Public Liscense products out there right now that accomplish 95% of the functionality of this one for free, are easier to install, and easier to extend.

Thanks for keeping me in line and helping the guy above.

I think you are confusing "buggy" with "it takes a few moments to configure it".

Having to edit a few cgi scripts does not constitute a bug.

I thought you said you had installed over 100 scripts?....it sounds like you don't have a great deal of experience to me. Changing configuration variables and paths is common practice when installing a perl script.

I know less perl than most anyone on this board just about. I don't even attempt to read perl stuff for the most part.

I installed links 2 right "out of the box," changed the configuration file info per the instructions, changed a variable in couple of files and had it working in about an hour.

If you know perl and have installed over 100 scripts (yikes!), you can certainly do it better than me.

Links will function as advertised; I am living proof of that. Is is pretty? No. But it will work. about 80% of it is template base. but that is mostly HTML stuff. And you can make it look pretty much what you want. You can change the other 20% too. If an idiot like me can figure it out, surely an experienced person like yourself can do it.

I've looked for better. None have the power and mods that Links has. and the info in this board will allow you to extend it far beyond what other links programs have.

But that will take work on your part.

Ah, to hell with it. maybe you deserve less Angelic. So! Please use one of the other links programs. Then come back here and tell us the URL and gloat over how much better "yours" is.

Ok, Ok....

I give up....

You guys sure are dedicated to this script. After getting it going, I am beginning to see why.

My apologies for expressing my frustrations here.
