java/javascript forum
Been thinking about this for the past few days.

There are perl / sql forums but no Java/Javascript forum !?! hmmm with the amount of javascript being used these days by GT I'm quite surprised that "J" has got it's own forum yet.

Also, currently there were 2 threads that referred to java in some form or other.

wha'cha' all think?

hm.. if he wrote what I think he did, he thought Quuq was going to write a forum in JavaScript, which is imposible. I almost posted the same thing.

OK. I have seen Javascript forums. And from this, I mean similar to the Links SQL Administrative Interface, where you have a message list down the left hand side (in Links it's your category list) and you can expand and collapse this as you go along. The page also stores all the messages so you can load any message instantly. It takes a while to load (obviously) but once loaded it's mega fast.

Where's my tenner? ;-)

I don't see any proof.....

I doubt it was a fully javascript forum....where do you think the posts were stored?..in javascript cyperspace? ...javascript can't write to databases or files.

err.. no.

We're talking about pure javascript. meaning javascript handles every bit of interaction between the server and the client. No Perl, PHP, ASP, or any other language involed other than HTML.

JavaScript is a client-side language. Even if it could write files (which it can't), it could only be saved to the clients' pc, which in effect means JavaScript could never be used to write a forum.

Server-side Java, on the other hand, can be used.

I know. Sorry, I didn't realise the request was for a full Javascript forum. What I have seen is Javascript used to enhance the front end.

Sorry all ... I just meant in the forms here ie :: "Home:General : Java/Javascript" (ahem forum) Angelic

hmmm java powered forums ... Wink ... sign up for apple discussions ...

apple uses webobjects ... ahem "java builder thingy" ported from NEXT and redone in all java without C.

webobjects makes java easy for programming challenged folks. Although, yes, the curve is step but you can basically build many things for many uses. ie :: application or script.

So It's been almost a year now. Why no JavaScript "topic" forum guys?

Many of us use JavaScript to enhance the scripts from GT and many posts throughout the forums directly relate to JavaScript.

Sure we could use Perl or PHP for many of these enhancements, but the toll on our servers would increase.

I really would like to see the additon of such a forum.

I think the main reason is the lack of traffic it would receive.
