I'd go one step further and suggest a parser function:
{{#r:8|http://some.url|Link Title}} or its close cousin the magic
word: {{RATING:8|http://some.url|Link Title}}
That has the potential to be used in templates such as:
{{r8|http://someurl|Link Title}}
