Test of Registration system

Hi All,

The registration of Wikimania 2007 is going to open in recent days. Thanks
for [[zh:User:????b|Littlebtc]]'s working on the registration system. Now
the system is almost done, and need debug and pressure test. Therefore,
please test the system:
http://wikimania.tw/~littlebtc/wikimania/index.php?uselang=en

If you have any question please don't hesitate to let me and Littlebtc know.
His email is sst.dream at gmail.com.

Many Thanks.

It looks cool. Thank you for all your helps, involved parties.

One question: Are data submitted for a test will be casted out?

Also on "Badge information":
Last year both user name and real name were provided and this
combination was useful (specially when a known Wikimedian with his or
her username appeared as presentator) . In this year we should only
have either one or another?

Hopefully; I just put in a junk registration :)

I agree there should be an option for "both" username and realname on
the badge.

Other issues:
* required fields should probably be marked with an asterisk or similar
* you might consider splitting the name field into family name
(surname) and given name
* I'd add a province/state field in addition to city for those of us
coming from America and elsewhere where it's a common part of the
address; it can be optional.
* typo in Accommodation: it's July 31st, not June 31st
* should Wikimedia project username be required? It should probably be
optional.
* I'd make a note that Aug 1 & 2 are hacking days, and the other 3
days are main conference

Otherwise, it looks great! Nice work.
cheers,
phoebe

Thanks. Now the system is still in only English and Traditional Chinese.
After finishing the translation, it will be multi-lingual.
We still need your effort.

Yeah, this is still under a test environment. We will clear the test data
before the registration really opens.

I think it should be optional.

I'll try to finish to copyedit the French version in the coming days. Seeing
how the form actually works will be helpful.

Hello THD,

I like it a lot, very professional.

A few suggestions that haven't been pointed out by my fellow friends:

* Add a []Don't care checkbox in 'Preferred Room', I personally don't
care if I'm with other person or 7.
* Under receipt : Mailing Address, the field should be a textbox to put
the address not a textfield.

The rest, I think it looks really good, very professional, maybe if you
template it I might be able to translate it to spanish (the final
version) if you wish.

Looks very nice. Just a few things
*please add a field " other comments" to leave some room to add information
about allergies (food and other (i know there is a food thingy, but someone
might, for instance, be allergic to rubber)), need of medicins, or something
else what you didnt think of. (and there is always such a thing ;) )
*If there are hard words like ATM, CTOY etc in the form, just link them to
Wikipedia :-)
*on giving your wikimedia-account, you can select commons as language, but
that is not very logical. It might make sense to add Commons and other
language independent projects too to the menu of Wikipedia, Wikisource etc.
*Might it make sense to add a field "organization" if the person is not from
Wikimedia?
*Birthday: add whether it is ddmmyyyy or yyyymmdd (although you find out
after typing it, it looks better imho.
*Would it be possible to keep the fiels as they are when switching from
language? (as someone who is not understanding what is said, can switch from
language to see whether he understands it better there). I guess this will
be hard, but if its easy, it would be nice :)
*Maybe it would be usefull to add a check on the linguistic part "I dont
need translation" or maybe "please try to find a translator for me". (maybe
both)
*Paper receipt: it is unclear whether this receipt will be sent through
normal mail, so what address should be filled in. Also it looks like you
automaticly receive a digital receipt, and you dont need to fill in an
emailaddress when requesting a digital receipt, is that correct?

Greetings, Lodewijk

"A.D." should probably change to "C.E." before the date of birthday. I
would also use the term "birth date" instead of "birthday." At least in
the U.S., people consider the birthday to be the /annual/ occurrence of
a certain month and day. (e.g., My birth date is 11 March 1984, but my
birthday is just 11 March.)

A few more things:

The .wikimedia.org option in the project account doesn't seem to make
sense. There's no .wikimedia.org project; it's just a listing of projects.

"Food and drink" should be rebadged "Dietary restrictions" and include
allergic reactions and religious restrictions. If a person can't eat
something, they can't eat it. I don't think it helps much to distinguish
between allergens and "moral" restrictions.

"Kosher" should exist as a dietary restriction option. Dietary
restrictions should be checkboxes instead of radio buttons. It's
possible to have a kosher vegetarian, for example. If this creates too
many possibilities (2^n precisely) to accommodate, I understand.

I can understand your concerns, but C.E. is not so well known among
non-native speakers. We could just remove it and put "YYYY-MM-DD"
aside the form for avoiding confusion?

"After you submit the form, you still have a chance to verify."

Verify is a transitive verb. It should probably say something like
"verify your registration."

A.D. is ridiculous here unless you plan to have some participants who
are over 2000 years old... I have this set up on my site using
drop-down lists for year and day, so people can't get confused about
which is which.

Birthday -> Birthdate

Best wishes,

I used for my test (meta.wikimedia.org and it is a project)
- species.wikimedia.org
- commons.wikimedia.org
- meta.wikimedia.org
.... and perhaps incubator.wikimedia.org?

I have no idea in the current system how they are described, but it
doesn't make a sense to omit them either.

In the last year, we just selected one from a pull-down menu. It could
be more easiler. Just thought.

I think the C.E./A.D. is in place to indicate which calendar system. Of
course, drop-down lists would serve this end equally well.

Please do not put AD or CE. It's not needed and either one will cause
a flamewar (see wikien-l archives).

Hi,

* Why do you need such big amount of data? You should mark as little
fields as possible as required in some way. There should also be a
little privacy note - I'd never submit my passport number and birth date
if not really needed and you should not make people to do this.

* What is ATM and how does it work? A link to Wikipedia should help ;-)

* "Preferred Wikimedia account" instead of "Wikimedia account" - I have
many.

* Optional "organization" if person has an affiliation

Thanks and greetings,
Jakob

If you can enable the test for the other languages that have been
already translated in, it would be easier to check the translations
(one of the problems in doing the translation is that the translator
do not easely understand where the message will be put). For what
concern the Italian translation, it should be fine enough translated
(still need review actually).

Actually I have just seen that the English version have been recently update
http://wikimania2007.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania:Translation/Registration_form
but some lines are not used (for instance the line " Preferred name
for sex", that I would not know how to translate, by the way).

Is the version now present on
http://wikimania2007.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania:Translation/Registration_form
the definitive one.

ARGGHH .. the page http://wikimania.tw/~littlebtc/wikimania/index.php?uselang=en
is not encrypted!!!

Do you want somebody to put sensitive information over an unencrypted
connection?

Improvements that I can suggest you:

* In the birth date, can be the day be render as a select (like the
month), ranging from 1 to 31. This way it would be easier to find
where to put year, month and day. (for the year a plain input field
may be better, to avoid a very long select list)

* if I change the url by putting something else as parameter than
uselang=en, for instance lang=it, I get the Chinese page, an error
page would be better, when a not (yet) supported language is selected.

* I find strange that you need the passport number but not the country
of the passport.

* Do you need a translation for the option of the Country / Region
field and of the Language fields?

* Is there a check on the validity of the date of birth? Or can
someone insert date like 2008-Feb-35? (35 is not a valid day and 2008
is an year in the future)

* As already said, Wikimedia project account should be main Wikimedia
project account

* I am not sure about this, but perhaps it would be better to insert a
note that the sender declare that the account written is really of the
person who is sending the form (This to avoid that someone take some
other accounts. I know that this would not enough, legally speaking,
but it is better than nothing)

* Would the registration fee change according to the number of the
days the person is going to attend? It is better to clarify that
before it is asked the "Date to participate"

* Badge information is it possible to have both name and username?
name would be given_name+surename, givename only or what?

* T-shirt size ... if only it were exist a standard about this size
... I have seen some t-shirts labelled as L that was smaller than what
I usually call an XXS.
Would it better to put the shorter sizes on the left and the bigger on
the right?

* Food and drink: in the current translation the are to closing round
parenthesis.

* Date to stay It would be better to specify that the date shown is
the date of arrival (starting of the night, that is, for example, that
June 31 means the night between June 31 and August 1)

* What is ATM way of payment? Is it a Money order?

* After I have selected payment by ATM and confirmed the form, in the
following page I got the confirmation number, and below after some
line in English, the remaining line are in Chinese (I presume)

Please inform translator when the fianle version of the English text
is ready for translation.

I think it's a wrong translation, ATM is the Cash Machine, so ATM
meant credit card working only with cash machine and not for paiment,

Hoi,
The standard way of indicate this is "date of birth".

The notion of changing something from AD to CE is brain dead. The Anno
Domini abbreviation is universally understood. The CE is just an attempt
to be politically correct.
Thanks,

So if i understand correctly people with no creditcard (and no PayPal) are
not able to pay? I hope this wont be true, there are (at least here in NL)
quite a lot people without both. It might be a good thing to add the ability
of bank transfer, maybe even through a WMF-account that they transfer it
together to you? (to reduce costs for international and inter-valuta
traffic)

How would people even get to Wikimania without purchasing a flight on a
credit or debit card?

By taking cash or a check/cheque into a travel agent. Perhaps some
also accept bank transfers.
