Good mobile skin for 1.19?

http://rationalwiki.org runs 1.19 LTS. This is fine. (Barring a DDOS
over the past couple of days, so please excuse the site being slow.)

Trouble is, the skin is for desktops and not suited to mobile at all.
What can a 1.19 LTS site do for a better experience for its mobile
readers?

The answer appears to be "not much", or "answer emails from private
developers" :-)

We're now looking at moving on up to 1.21 or 1.22.

* When is a 1.22 tarball anticipated?
* Will it have usable mobile out of the box? (Even just for viewing.)

So far, all the WMF mobile efforts are concentrated in MobileFrontend, and
you'll need it for any real mobile experience. It tends to require a
recentish MW so your decision to upgrade is right regardless. Also, it
might need a change in your cache configuration, poke me offlist or on IRC
and I'll help with that.

(I had replied to David off-list but just to share with everyone…)

Garrick van Buren and I have been doing a lot of work on making MediaWiki mobile friendly with a solid skin. We have been working on a new skin called Foreground. You can see more information at

http://foreground.wikiwonders.net/wiki/Main_Page

You can also see it in action live on WikiApiary:

http://wikiapiary.com/wiki/Main_Page

Note that making a wiki responsive requires close attention to templates. Foreground is built on the Zurb Foundation framework, and does really well in a variety of environments.
