Customize edit article text

A couple of questions about MediaWiki customizations....

Is there an "easy" way to customize the edit article text in MediaWiki?

I've found MediaWiki:Newarticletext and this allow me to change the text
shown when someone wants to edit a new article... but I've not yet found
any secret trick to changing the text shown when someone edits an
existing article (I want to add some text above the edit box).

Hi C,

Have you looked at Special:Allmessages? You can often search for the text in your wiki installation that you want to replace and find it there with a helpful link to the page to replace it on. This will be true for almost any core wiki UI text you will want to change.

Thanks for that tip. I've added some text to MediaWiki:Edittools which
goes a long way towards what I wanted.

Hmmm interesting though. When I added text to the MediaWiki:Edittools
page, it now has an [edit] link on the right when I am in page edit
mode. i haven't tested with a non-admin user-ID to see if this is the
same. Seems rather odd that I see an [edit] link for that text though
when I don't see [edit] links for other system text (eg the "Templates
used on this page" section.
