Adding FCKeditor to intranet wiki?

New job, new intranet Mediawiki installation! This one is 1.12. I want
to add FCKeditor to it - particularly as current versions are very
usable indeed - but the mediawiki.org page is entirely unclear on the
right way to go:

* Kludge it into 1.12 however feasible?
* Upgrade to 1.15 and kludge it in?
* Upgrade to 1.16 when that's out and apparently pull from svn?

I do plan to upgrade to 1.16 when feasible, but the wiki is in a
nascent state (people still copy'n'pasting docs from the previous
horrible intranet) so I'd like to get it in there ASAP.

What have others done?

- d.

I use fckeditor on wmf-deployment and it works. In fact I'm using it in
conjunction with the Usability Initiative extension/editor. If you want
fckeditor for 1.12 you'll have to get an old version of it that supports the
old preprocessor.

Yeah, I want the shiny new stuff in FCK :-) It's actually decent
WYSIWYG now. (Even if it doesn't implement *all* the whacky stuff
people do with wikitext on English Wikipedia, for example.)

So pulling wmf-deployment is a suitable thing to do? I'd rather wait
for a 1.16 package, but I've seen the wikitech-l discussions about how
that's not really ready for a tarball yet.

Why not just upgrade to the 1.15.1 stable release?

A question.
We are using mediawiki in our intranet, but our very kind
administrators want to change because they are not able to have
efficient user right management.
Any experience about it?
Any experience in LDAP interfacing?

I personally don't see the point in using a versioned release, so I don't
;-) Other people will tell you differently, but I find running stable trunk
provides the most flexibility and you also get many newer features not
available in the releases.
